The newspaper reported that on Sunday 24 January 2010, Hor 5 Hong and his wife paid a visit to soldiers at the Preah Vihear temple border zone, and the photo above came from that visit. It appears that Cambodia is now using child soldiers at a time when our Strongman is boasting about the strength of our forces.

Well, I think they are midget soldiers.. not child soldiers! In Khmer they call Kren! Don't accuse them before you find out the real fact!

Nothing new about child soldiers. it happened around the world. If he loves his country and he thinks he can pick up an arm to fight then its up to him. Although I wouldn't encourage him to join. When I lived in site two camp at the border, theres a lot of child soldiers who had joined to fight against the VietCong and the KR. I myself was very young at that time and I live with the freedom fighters. I got used to that war so I wasn't really afraid the regular firefight that take place around that area and I've seen a lot of child soldiers there. I know its wrong but we are weak and we need all the man power. As for me I would have done the same thing like that boy. I love my country and I will protect it.
Can Huns sen and cpp be more disgusting than they already are! This is down right immoral! The only place this child needs to be is with his family and learning in school!

I support the 'Kren' or 'Small stature' theory. There is no child soldiers in the area during my visit there recently.

Why you guy surprise about young soldiers? there'were young soldiers all over the world, Africa, indonesia, Burma, SuriLanka, Europe country, and many many country...? i think that little child in the picture are son or daughter to those soldiers at the frontline, they dress like soldier to show their patriotism...that's all? Thailand trying to make fun or mocking at Cambodian Gov'ts for these little things? remembered Thais Gov't is running out an idea to press Cambodia!

I completely agree for good that young boy are nationalist and pick up arms to fight against bastard enemies. And I absolutely accept that there are child soldiers at every corner of earth.
On the other hand, if you guys look at trends and civilization and rule of law in a country, Cambodia as such, in the 21 century, it is obsolete to talk about child soldier. Children who join the army usually see fewer alternatives in their lives. They do not have opportunities to have enough food, education and access to basic rights. Moreover, Cambodia ratified Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1992 and later including optional protocol in involvement children in armed conflict. Still have baby soldiers. And I do not think they are the off springs of the soldiers because they are well dressed in military uniform.

Completely agree with you that This is major international crime, by using Child solders. However, if you care to carefully look at the face of that particular person in this picture then you can see and realise that he is not a child.

I want to tell you that this is not a child soldier. He is the child of army, they wore the army close as well with their father. In Cambodia, when the father go to war the family also go with and when they grow up they will become soldier as well.
I have known his person well. As you are far away from home, you are easy to be cheated by the misleading info. They twist the info. by cut and edit.
I had told our people also, those childs in the picture are not soldier?, they just dress up to show their patriotism, especially when there's special guest"Hor Num Hong from Phnon Penh came to visited their base, all them kids are family member of our soldier that station at 'Viel Intry' area....
