Phnom Penh - A fortune-teller who turned gold jewellery into tin foil to dupe villagers has been warned by police not to repeat the scam, national media reported Tuesday.
Bun Srey Neang was arrested after persuading villagers in Kandal province near the capital that they should leave their jewellery in a jar with her for 15 days. She said all of their wishes would come true when they came back and opened the container.
However the Cambodia Daily newspaper reported that villagers got much less than they hoped for when they found that their jewellery, worth around 200 dollars, had been replaced with tin foil.
The district police chief said the fortune-teller had been warned that she would be arrested if she repeated her scam.
'This magic is used to cheat honest people who are uneducated, especially those who believe in magical fortune-tellers,' said police chief Pa Som Eth, adding that Bun Srey Neang had since returned the jewellery to the villagers.
Cambodia is a predominantly Buddhist country, but belief in magic and the supernatural remain widespread.

Khmer should learned their mistaken from the past also, Khmer King used to believed in these nonsense things, because of these fortune tell lier, that's why King jayvarman lost alot his army to enemy...History had told us that people that time used to worship alot of stupid things, like: woods, rocks, stone, even animals POOP? these fortune tell liar are destroyer of Khmer Empier lands...
Yep, during that time, when people got real sick, they performed some kind of spiritual dance to chase a way the sickness..? they should have doctor to heal the sickness instead..? specially King Jayvarman's wife...she's really deep into that stuffs?

What do you expect from the dumbfuck?.The other day the whole villagers of Kampot worshiped the strange fish that was caught in the fishing net.
Most Khmers are dumb because we are poor and uneducated. The government doesn't want to educate their own people so that's why we are easy to become victimized and persuaded by the smart ones. Remember being smart and intelligence will make your country grows strong.
I find hard to belived people these day, how come they don't use their brain a little abit! worshiped a FISH? a dead COW? i heard in Kompong Cham, Koh Sutin, there's a hole with the flame coming out the ground, and people worshiped..the damn things? this is a Volcano about to erupt...or something?
Khmer King Jayvarman, Suriyavarman they both had alot of stupid people around him, and telling him or leading him into wrong thing wrong way, like FORTUNE TELLER as an example! Thailand got smarter because they associated with foreigner and plus they knew how to used their fucken brains better than Khmer!
I used to heard old people said, they don't send their child to school and learning, because they fear that, they knew how write love letter to each other...? this is a story of an old ancient time people...?
Not too long ago,a Cambodian farmer thought one fish that he catches was his own father who reincarnate as a fish.
Most of Khmer ancient people are dumb, no educations, no schooling, enemy had advantaged on them, because of their dumb...it's not like Khmer today, we are much better off these days...!
event the current king have the fortune teller. what if the fortune teller say that hun sen and his wife are the devil. they should be hang. now what do the king going to do? in the past lots of inocence were excuted because of the fortune teller. i went to fortune teller once i was told that i will be one of the rich person before i reach my retirement age. now i'm 72 year old still poor,no even poorer than before.
