PHNOM PENH - CAMBODIAN and Thai troops have had a brief shoot-out on their disputed border, a Cambodian defence ministry spokesman said on Saturday, in the latest such flare-up.
Mr Chum Socheat told AFP that soldiers from the two countries exchanged fire for two or three minutes on Friday evening.
'We are now further investigating into the problem to find out how it started. We can't tell who started it first,' he said. He added that Cambodian troops reported a Thai soldier was killed in the skirmish, however Thai military officials were not immediately available to comment.
Troops from the two countries briefly exchanged fire in disputed territory near an ancient Khmer temple last Sunday.
Cambodia and Thailand have been at loggerheads over their border for decades. Nationalist tensions spilled over into violence in July 2008, when the Preah Vihear temple was granted Unesco World Heritage status.
Four soldiers were killed in clashes in the temple area in 2008 and three more in a gunbattle last April. The border has never been fully demarcated, partly because it is littered with landmines left over from decades of war in Cambodia.

we all had attention with khmer-viet border ,now with west khmer -thai border ,i believed that not propose to be mistake again as ah var kim hong did khmer -viet border .

It is just a strategy of Vietnamese expansionism in Cambodia. This conflict between Thai-Khmer created by Hanoi which is the way for the Vietnamese to send their soldiers openly into Cambodia, and say "we are here to help our Khmer friends against Thai aggressors".
Hun Sen knew it but he is weak and can't afford to make two enemies at the same time and he can't fight against Thais with a big army. Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam has its own problem and its own ambition, but Vietnam's ambitions is to take Cambodia.
Allowing Thailand and Cambodia to join force, it is going to be difficult to expand its expansionsm.
Rainsy is another character who plays to unmask Vietnam's dirty job in Cambodia, whether or not Rainsy and Hun Sen are working toward the same gaol to save Cambodia remains under Vietnam's microscope.

This clash now happenned in Pothisat province (Pursat in French)and not near Preah Vihear, as a result of a new Abbhishit Kashit's aggresive policy toward Cambodia. As long as Abbhishit continues to occupy our land near Preah Vihear we should continue downgrading our diplomatic relation to the present low with the Abbhishit -Kashit's government. It is unfortunate that a Thai soldier has to be killed by us for this stupid new Abbhishit's unfriendly policy toward Cambodia.
The funny thing is, when Thais step inside khmer territory, they started to shoot or open fire at Khmer right away! not like Khmer soldier, they hesitated, asking Thais millions of questions, this and that?, what are you doing here..? For Thais soldiers, No questions ask, they will shoot at you less than a seconds, as soon you step inside their lands, just like those poor people at O'SMACTH, BANTEAY AMPIL, TRAPEANG PRASAT AREA...if i was like those khmer soldier, i'll fire only one shot for warning! if they do not back off, my next shot will be right on thais forehead with BM21 rockets...

When you all said the clash between Siamese and Khmers is caused by Viet expsionism. May be you all can explain in more details why Viet influence causes the clashes. I don't agree with this critism without any proof. We should encourage all Khmers to defend our lands against foreign invasion. I think the government does right for west border but I am not sure about the east unless we have all technical evidences.

I can feel that only Khmer kill Khmer. Khmer's army who runs by cpp killed siam's army who original blood as Khmer too. Who win? siam's top rank who had chinese blood and use Khmer Surin and so on to fight with Khmer that runs by yourn. Why all the bad things are happen to Khmer? Where and when Khmer will learn from the mistake? GOD please wake up all Khmer so they will learn and know how to take care their Mother land.
1:15 am, can you put your thinking cap again and find a way for Thailand to load up their warships with their troops and the rusted jumping jet aircraft carrier with their jets and helicopters then head out to Vietnam and invade it. Thais have to know that the Viets don't like them as well. That would be awesome for the region, don't you think?
Better yet, Thailand can go through Laos to get to Vietnam as well. It's a much shorter distant too.
