So it is history that the world recognizes." - Kem Sokha, head of the Human Rights PartyPrime Minister Hun Sen on Monday warned critics not to oppose the upcoming Jan. 7 anniversary, which marks the ouster of the Khmer Rouge by Vietnamese forces in 1979.
“Jan. 7 did not make anyone become enemies, and Jan. 7 belongs to the Cambodian people and all of Cambodia,” Hun Sen said, speaking at the inauguration of a high school in Battambang town.
He asked that no one “oppose” the upcoming anniversary, which is a government holiday, saying that the day had opened the way to the Paris Peace Accords, in 1991.
After pushing the Khmer Rouge from power, the Vietnamese installed a government, including then foreign minister Hun Sen and many of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party members. The CPP regards Jan. 7 as a day of victory and a rebirth of the Cambodian people.
The Vietnamese-backed regime began a long civil war with the Khmer Rouge guerrillas until Vietnam withdrew in 1989, following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The UN intervened in 1991, putting an end to the war and establishing an election in 1993.
The Jan. 7 anniversary has since become a political flashpoint, because the decade-long occupation still rankles many Cambodians. Every year, leaflets appear in markets in different parts of the country that oppose the celebration of Jan. 7.
Leaflets were found in Takeo town on Monday denouncing the day.

I'm not against Vietnam invasion for oustering the KR. But if Vietnam have good intention, then they would not implement K5 under Hun Sen during their occupation of Cambodia.
What worse is when they withdraw their forces, the withdrawal was a show. It mean many of the Vietnames soldiers just took of their uniform and only a handful return to Vietnam.
The soldiers left since the invasion have infiltrate Cambodian societies until today. As as many aware most of the riches and powerfull people in Cambodia took are enthic vietnames with Cambodian name to cover their real identity.
So in short the invasion is a open door to Vietnam long ambition to colonise Cambodia in the same manner as Khmer Krom Mark 2.
Soon Khmer people in Cambodia just like Khmer Krom will become a minority as Vietnamese government with the aid and 120% of Hun Sen and CPP official slowly and gradually kill of Khmer people and re-populate Cambodia with the Millions of Vietnamese illegal immegrat when the CPP Hun Sen does nothing to resolved until today.
Cambodia will soon like Lao until Vietnamese government control 100%. So the next genocide in Cambodia is slow death to Khmer people is started on January 7th 1979.
Hope Cambodia all over the world think outside the square and do what we can together to keep this from happening, else there is no place call Cambodia home for our childrens and their childrens....

AH HUN SEN can acknowledge the anniversary of January 7 until the day he die and nobody is stopping him. And he needs to understand by now that he has no right to impose his belief and his will on Cambodian people!
Cambodian people must have the right to expression their view about everything that is going on in Cambodian society including the fucken January 7 anniversary!
By the way AH HUN SEN is giving too much credit to the Vietcong leaders for invading Cambodia to install him in power! The fact still remain from the mouth of the Vietcong leaders and they said that they have no intention of saving Cambodian people from the genocide but to unify the whole Indochinese countries under the Vietcong domination!
The only independent day that we all should recognize is from the French. Vietnam invaded Cambodia, stole our territory, killed our intellectuals and installed an incompetent government with communist minded only to obey Vietnam as its master.

Khmer Rouge led Cambodia to the death of its own people but can protect the land and map of Cambodia.
CPP government has not led the country to eliminate the people, but this government is leading to eliminate the land and border of Cambodia.
