Cambodia has begun reinforcing its troops along the Thai border and plans to keep a strong military presence on the border until at least 2014, the Ministry of Defense says in a review.
In a report distributed to local media, Minister of Defense Tea Banh said the border would be bolstered “to ensure national protection.”
The Ministry of Defense is conducting a five-year review and making plans for the next five years.
The five-year plan includes recruitment of new forces and addition of equipment. Cambodian soldiers are engaged in a protracted standoff with Thai troops along the border at Preah Vihear temple.
Sporadic skirmishes since July 2008 have left at least seven soldiers dead.
“To ensure national protection, the Ministry of National Defense, the general command, have reinforced forces along the western and northern border and recruited new forces along with new equipment, for quality in combat,” Tea Banh said in the report, which was issued to defense officials Tuesday.
The document highlights reforms that include consolidating infantry, maritime and air forces.

For the Yuon border, let Rambo Xam Rainxy take care.
While Hun Sen is talking and put soldiers on the Thai/Khmer boarder to pretect his face and his inability to resolved the issues with Thailand, which resulted into name calling that is what you would expect from the highly educated Doctor and PHD PM Hun Sen, you can't get better then this incompetent full....
Mean while, Hun Sen smartless have also left a gapping hole in the back of his pants and we can see Vietnam & it government had strategically started to used the hole on Hun Sen's backside to move into Cambodia territory...
You would have though as a former KR soldier and Viet Mind leader, you would need to protect all angle of your environment to be safe from preditoring neighbours. But again the dumb PHD Hun Sen haven't got a clue....no wonder the certificate was issues from Vietnam without a University attendence.
I had a dream not long ago. In my dream I was going to Cambodia but when I got there, I thought I over shot over to Vietnam. But I remember of visiting temples and seeing other tourists who spoke like Vietnamse but the place was, I thought in Cambodia. I was puzzled about it all.
May be Cambodia will be Vietnam after all. By the way, I never been back since I left in 1976.
Why do Khmer have to worry about east? I knew that Prey Norkor is Khmer's land so you don't need to concern about east side only worry about West alright? Have you ever heard that yourn and Khmer are related? If you don't know ask master hun sen.
....but it is okay to Hun Sen when fully armed Vietnamese soldiers walk back and forth freely across the border at the Cambodian-Vietnamese frontier to buy cigarettes and harass Cambodian farmers?
This happens all the time along the Cambodian-Vietnamese border while the Cambodian police and officials stationed there do nothing but smoke, socialize and play with cell phones.
Mr. Tea Banh! what' about Vietnam and Cambodia border? just leave it open wide...?
Cambodia must build permanent military base there, including on top of Phnom Trop...to keep watching!
Do we have military bases in regions bordered with Vietnam? If no, what the point of protecting our land from the west side while leaving East side open?
