BANGKOK, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The Thai-Cambodian border's situation is now back to normal, after the brief exchange of gunfire on early Sunday morning, Thailand's army chief General Anupong Paochinda said on Monday.
Everything is now fine after senior military officials from the two countries discussed following the clash, Thai News Agency quoted General Anupong as saying.
The border clash between military patrols of the two countries occurred on an undemarcated area next to Thailand's northeastern province of Srisaged near ancient Preah Vihear temple, which is claimed by both countries.
After the clash, Col. Thanet Wongchaum, Chief of Staff of the Commander for the Suranaree Task Force and Col. Thawatchai Changprachak, Commander of a Special Unit from Thailand's Ranger Forces Regiment 23, met with Maj-Ben Srey Doek, commander of Cambodia's 3rd Reinforcement Division at an operation base in Kantharalak district of Srisaged.
It was discovered during an hour of the meeting between the senior officials from the two countries that the clash was caused by misunderstanding.
Both countries have historically laid claim to the temple, which now sits on Cambodian soil following the action of the International Court of Justice which awarded the ancient temple to Cambodia in 1962.
However, the temple can practicably only be accessed from Thailand.

it's such a waste of time for cambodia to deal with thailand militarily. we have to look to the UN and the international law to solve this. don't play siem game; it's stupid and unruly of siem to play this game of bully! i mean it is ok for cambodia to station our troops for border protection, etc, but at the same time, seek out international law and the UN security council to look into helping to solve this international dispute once and for all, really! wake up, people! siem game is stupid and bully!
it is silly not to take advantage of the many international law out there which help to solve this kind of international dispute. you know, in reality, whether you think it only thailand and cambodia problem, it is actually ann international incidence when it comes to international borderlines dispute, so, it makes sense to get the international law and international diplomacy involve, really. use it to cambodia's advantage, don't be ashame about using this international law, the UN, etc... their purpose of existent is to help prevent and solve this kind of international incident, really. please get educated already and stop wasting time dealing with thailand military when we can have an easy way to solve this "international" incident. countries on the planet have used the international law all the time to solve this kind of dispute, really! nothing to be ashame about it, it is as natural as giving birth, etc...
