Cambodia has appealed to its citizens to avoid travel in Thailand, warning against non-essential travel even to Bangkok ahead of a contentious court decision there.
“Those who live there should avoid demonstrations and gatherings, to avoid any danger,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Koy Kuong told VOA Khmer Monday.
The warning comes as Thailand’s Supreme Court prepares to issue a decision on whether to seize $2.2 billion from ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who remains popular with many Thais.
Thaksin has been appointed an economic adviser to Prime Minister Hun Sen, a move that has nettled Bangkok and brought about a diplomatic crisis between the neighbors, who already have troops amassed along a contested border near Preah Vihear temple.
An estimated 200,000 Cambodians are employed in Thailand, with some of them crossing the border each day to find work.
Many cross illegally, and a Thai court this week sentenced six Cambodians to more than two years in jail for illegal entry and logging, after they were caught cutting rattan in Surin province.

Why Khmers people are so stubborn? going to Thailand illegally will face jails time and shot at like wild animals, people could do alot of thing back home, farming, raising livestocks, Govts even offer a loan$$ for the poor these days..? doing thing back home is safe and have peace of mind too...don't people ever learned from Pol Pot's time? we had nothing to eat, bu WORK! WORK! WORK! and we all still alive..???

Agree! people shoud wait until thing back to normal, between the two country resolve and then you can go, if people still go, the more chance they get, being shot at and beatean to death, because those Thais black soldiers are so fucken cruel...
Khmers are Pleu!! they always allow Thais to look down on them and their country, this is how Khmers did to themselves....what's dumb, stupid, muk krass and stubborn they are!!
Abbhisit should have shot back at Hun Sen by saying like this: "Hun Sen, you killed thousand of your own people while you were Khmer Rouge cadre and if you deny that you ever did the killing may lightening stike you and your whole family.". Then Abbishit should wait and see Hun Sen's reaction.
