Center for Justice & Reconciliation holds Public Forum at KR Killing Site in Battambang

Dear Friends,

This Friday, February 12th, 2010 the Center for Justice & Reconciliation (CJR) will hold a public forum to aid Khmer Rouge survivors in Battambang, Cambodia. The forum, entitled “Moving Forward, Together: Transforming Killing Fields to Healing, Living Fields,” will convene in the courtyard of Samrong Khnong Pagoda in the Ek Phnom District, an authentic site included in the scope of investigation for Case 002 in the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). It is believed that over 10,000 people were detained and murdered here between 1975-1979.

One hundred and fifty participants from the community, including 30 students, will engage in open dialogue with one another, CJR staff, representatives of the Association of Khmer Rouge Victims in Cambodia, ECCC officials, and experts in psychology and trauma at the forum.

We hope that you will join us for this important event. Please see the attached public announcement, forum agenda and travel information.

Sincerely,

The CJR Team

Reconciliation, justice, you talk? What I see is, the killers or the winners just want to shut up victims mouth and hide their crimes, their horrors through a propounds machine named, ECC, Reconciliation, justice, peace, stability and so on.... Justice, peace or reconciliation will not exist through justice of the but Justice of the Victims. Everyone must take their responsibility, victims as well as the killers and profiteers of the crimes. The criminals must at their places and victims theirs, not inversely

Died to the assassins, all assassins and their partners as sympathizers

that's right cambodia do want to move forward with and leave th past atrocity behind for good, however, we also think it is important to educate our people and the world about it as well so it won't allow to happen again!

of course, cambodia and the world cannot and should not ignore what has happened in cambodia during the 1970s (1975- 1979), one of the darkest period in khmer history, really! we all can learn from it, whether it is good or bad, you know!

1970-1976: Vietminh alias CPP killed Khmers.
1975-1979: Khmer rouges killed Khmers.
1976-1979: Khmer rouges killed Vietminhs.
1993-2009: Vietminhs destroy Khmers souls.
2008-today: some Khmer victims serve Vietminhs, their killers.

It reminds me so much of this place as my father was killed here, and I was locked up here for three days before my escape in 1977. Good to see this place is now remembered.
