Forcible deportation of Uighur may affect US-Cambodia ties

Washington: Forcible deportation of Uighurs to China by Cambodia would affect its relationship with the United States, the Obama Administration said today.

"We expect governments, including Cambodia, to uphold its international obligations, and this will affect our relationship with Cambodia as well as its international standing," Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs P J Crowley said.

"We obviously expressed our disappointment and we are deeply disturbed that the Cambodian Government, in violation of its international obligations, forcibly removed 20 Uighur asylum seekers to China in December without the benefit of a credible process for determining their refugee status," Crowley told reporters here.

"We have expressed our disappointment and we will factor this into future decisions that we make about our relationship with Cambodia," he said.

US, your sincerity is well respect around the World. Dealing with STUPID Cambodian Gov't...it takes another STUPID Gov't like Viet. Cong to understand each other....The US is highly educated, and more supperio as suppose to Cambodian dumb Gov't. The US has to talk shit with the Cambodian Gov't because the Stupid Cambodian Gov't ONLY talk SHIT.....!

I wouldn't worry about it seeing that this is just another political ploy by the US in trying to cope with Chinese increasing influence in the Asian region. The US is trying to assert its influence by putting pressure on those who are favoring the Chinese. For the record, the US government doesn't give a damn about human right violation. Just look at the Guantanamo Bay situation. Stop exploiting things like human right for your political agenda, Uncle Sam.

Hun Sen's regime is a pawn of China. No question about it. Why don't remove him from power now for the sake of Cambodia future. He's a communist mentality as well as Vietnam. Get rid of him now before he commit more crime against his own peoples. What's a Communist People Party ( CPP ).

This is a very sad case. Khmer gov't needs to learn more about the "human right" approaches to life. Now, imagine you and your family members being threaten by the oppressors or aggressors and said that they are going to kill all of you because of trying to defend about what you believe is right to you, wouldn't you and your family escape from such threat threat? Off cause, like most of us who have escaped from the war just to survive in search of freedom and free will to speak base on what is right to them. So,khmer gov't to learn to protect these vulnerable people just like many other countries who have helped many of our khmer people in all over the world. Finally, just be kind and kindness will come to you "help others and you will get help" proverbs. Wisdom

I never thought that the Uncle Sam would hold Cambodia to such a higher standard in comparison to Thailand and Vietnam.

I don't even know why Uncle Sam keep bring up this 20 Uighurs issue as if Cambodia can change the world! I mean what about Thailand deporting 1.3 million migrants not including the Hmong and the Khmer Krom who are American ally during the Vietnam War! I don't hear any protest from Uncle Sam about the Thai deportation of the Hmong and the Khmer Krom?

Tell me what is human right? Is human right only apply to weak and dirt poor country like Cambodia?

Fair point!

Countries were even willing to accept those Hmong.

Yeah, how about Thai sent thousands of Cambodian into mine field at Phnom Dang Rek in 1979. The UN estimate that 30,000 innocent Cambodian refugee died in the mine field, some by starvation, kill by mine explosion, and some were machined gun by Thai soldiers. I have friend and relatives who are victim of this cruelty. We never forget it. Where were the US and the human right group? Why no one help us. Why most Cambodian don't even know that this event took place. We should remember it.

Oh,it is ridiculous that Assistant of State for Public Affairs Crowley made this statement. I would like to ask why Obama did not raise the plight of Uighurs during this visit to Beijing? He should have done that if the US really care about the Uighurs. Instead, the US treated China like a superpower. The press conference Obama had with Hu Jintao reminded me of the treatment that the US used to grant to Russia.

Human righs have been used whenever it is suitable to the strong countries. Nobody raised human rights when the Khmer Rouge got assistance from the West. They brought back the Khmer Rouge to kill Cambodians for the last 2 decades.

Look at how human rights are being respected in Irak.

to those who criticized Obama's administration . if the US didn't care about human rights and about the lives of khmer people who lived along the thai-cambodian border during the vietnamese invasion , none of khmer people will be in the US by now .

Enough already! I say we (US) leave these prehistoric ape/knuckle draggers alone so we can advance forward. Making friends with these caveman-like will only hold us back. It doesn't benefit us anyway. It's 2010 and they haven't learn a god damn thing. It's time to jump ship!

Oh my God no. What we going to do without the US?

By the way several countries want the US to home... like Irak, Afghanistan, Japan...

Oh boy the self righteous American is manifesting themselves now.
What your mouth preach and what you do and did to Cambodia is kind a contradictory.

By the way any word for the Viet and Thai encroachment?

Don't blame us encroaching on your territory. Blame your leader. Matter of fact, your PM doesn't seem to care and neither do we. Lol!
Hope the US pulled out of Cambodia so we can freely enjoyed our stampede. Haters!
