An angry village mob in Cambodia armed with bamboo sticks and stones beat to death two suspected robbers, dragging them away from police who had arrested them for stealing a motorcycle, police said Friday.
The throng of about 400 villagers was so frenzied that police got scared, said Maj. Bonn Sam Ath, a police chief in the district of Dangkor, on the western outskirts of the capital.
“The villagers threatened to attack us if we refused to hand over the suspects to them,” Bonn Sam Ath said. “We had no choice. They would have beaten us too if we protected the suspects.”
The men were among three people arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a motorcycle from two sisters, who were riding it when attackers hit them over the head with pistols. The women were hospitalized in critical condition.
Word spread through the village that police had detained suspects, prompting a crowd led by relatives of the victims to await their arrival near the police station, said Bonn Sam Ath, adding that police initially tried to protect the suspects.
The third suspected robber survived by pretending he was dead, he said. Police do not plan to press charges because they do not know which members of the mob were responsible for the murders, he added.
Mob killings are not uncommon in rural Cambodia, where police are often seen as corrupt and villagers take justice into their own hands.

This is a very very affective way to get rid off thieves in Cambodia. Americans should do the same way in America to get rid off thieves, gangs...to light our streets and to save money too.
I urge all gangsters and thieves to take a good look at these pictures and promise yourself to get out of troubles and violents. Otherwise you will end up like this and don't blame any body but yourself.
This is so unfair to the suspected victims who would not deserve to die brutally in this manner.
Uneducated villagers need to be well disciplined.
I dislike this scene very much there is no justice in society whatsover.
Those who acted in this brutality must be brought to justice and punished according to their deeds.
Another instance I witnessed myself while visiting home in Cambodia was that a petty thieve who tried to steal a wallet near Wat Lanka in 2008, was severely brutalized in this same manner in the middle of the city by an angry mob of male teenagers in the middle of the street on Sihanouk Bulevard in front of The Place, where chaos ran wild.
So much lawlessness in society!
10:02 PM should go live in Cambodia and take some kinds of action to address crime issues...what a stupid psycho turd...
much lawlessness comes from a society without laws.
this is not okay. this is capital punishment without proof of guilt. What if the police had picked up the wrong guys? who would be responsible for providing justice for them then?
this kind of lawlessness is only acceptable if they were to beat Hun Sen up- so getting rid of the root of lawlessness. Otherwise not good!
These violence are only reserved for the worst criminals and actual killers without repentance like Hun To who shot and killed innocents in Cambodia.
Don't kill anyone without a body guard. If you see a criminal without a body guard shot and killed an innocent Cambodian, you have the blessing to stone that generals or 5 stars idiot's son/nephew and his gaurds to death!
When Hun Sen understands what kind of lawlessness he is running in society then he may change and think about corruption better!
* with a body gaurd *
Is the guy going to kwach like Hun Sen??????
Or Hun Sen going to be beatup like the gfuy?????
This is the way how the viets manipulated the Khmers into killing each other.
THINK ABOUT IT, my khmer brothers.
11:53PM If the Khmer inffluent by the Viet to commeet crime against people! We have no choice!
Don't be stupid to be a criminal because the viet ask you too!
OMG, this will teach a lesson to all the thieves. But it's sad, though! Nobody deserved to die this way. Villagers stop using the violence. killed this way because of motorcycle!
Well, boggers, these vilaggers would be more difficult to kills new three kinds of Cambodia because they have best weapens (noodle, monosodiam, and sugar)for these people. Keep them poor, than they can governce by just noodle....the poor Khmer people in the ocountry side do not have time to think about long-term, because they are busy to put the food on their plate....
Khmer wait up...to maintain political stability in the country has a very high cost to Khmer future...Hun Sen regime must change...the CPP clant keep on saying that change must take time...but for how long...there must be goal to obtain. 13 years had been pass since the CPP have to sold power to develope the country...yes, one can see in pp, th grow of new building is expernatually, but how about the basic need of over 80% that you suppose to take care of? Manage the basic need of these people?
Hum Sen regime must change....
Bonn Sam Ath,
Your quote:
“The villagers threatened to attack us if we refused to hand over the suspects to them,” Bonn Sam Ath said. “We had no choice. They would have beaten us too if we protected the suspects.”
What a stupid excuse is that?
How did you get to be a police chief with that kind of mentality. lol.
Didn't you swear to protec and serve when you joined the poice?
What kind of protocal did you and your department practice as policemen?
I say you must resign from your post and let the competent one with capibility to leading the department. You are unfit.
What a wasted chief.
To get rid of someone, all someone has to do is point at someone and yell "thief!!!"
Why don't you useless Cambodian punks mob ah kwak hun sen like that....pouch ah touk teap! I don't feel bad for those theives, but you should also use this energy against ah jouy mar rai ah kwak, hun sen, ah soy sopheap, ah shit general ah chea tara.
1:55 AM,
That is how those STUPID Cambodian polices operate!
7:48 AM,
I know they are incompetent, but what should the Cambodian gov't do? Administrative leave without pay pending investigation? They barely get paid any real salary. They did not get trained in any ethical ways to hadle critical situations. I wonder how would they respond if the three were actual some "oknha" or "ek oudom"??
