Cambodian Ban Step in the Right Direction to Combat Human Trafficking

Cambodia has temporarily barred South Korean men from marrying Cambodian women. The ban, imposed earlier this month, came after Cambodian police arrested a woman for allegedly trafficking 25 women and for about 100 US dollars each, reports Asia Pacific News.

The ban will eventually be lifted, but the government plans to first install an efficient screening mechanism to prevent cases of trafficking and prove that South Korean men are single and do not have a criminal record. John McGeoghan, project coordinator for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), said the ban was a positive step and was quoted in the Phnom Penh Post as saying "It’s good to see the Cambodian government is taking this issue seriously."

The South Korean news agency Yonhap reported Friday that the ban pertains only to South Korean men because nearly 60 percent of international marriages in Cambodia involve Korean nationals, and most of them are arranged through brokers.

There was a similar ban imposed in 2008 after the International Organization for Migration released a report indicating that marriage brokers were making profitable business from supplying Cambodian brides to South Korean men; the ban lasted eight months. Though Cambodia has banned marriage brokerage since that time, the Washington Post reports that the number of Cambodian women marrying Korean men has more than doubled from 551 in 2008 to 1,372 last year.

Cambodian women, you are willing to sell yourself to those bastards (brokers) for $100 freakin' dollars? Give me a break! Again, for $100, that's it! What can $100 get you now these day? Please Ladies or women, you are way smarter, and too beautiful. Don't settle for just $100? This to me is outrageous! I still can't get over this! What a hell these women thinking? $100 will last you for life time?

Cambodian women, this is not the only solution to save yourself from poverty, there's so much more you can do to better yourself.

I'm glad the government finally takes this issue seriously! I hope these Cambodian women will stop listening to the marriage brokers. The brokers are the ones who make profit out of them. They don't give a craps about your situation. All they care is the more women they recruit, the more money they make. The government should go after these so called marriage brokers. They are crooks and bastards! These freakin' bastards should be put in jail for good.
May God Buddha bless Khmer women and guide them in the right directions!

Do not be a Fool!
Of course 100$ is not true!

The REAL problem is that many Cambodian mothers are greedy enough to sell their daughters for a good price.

They sell them to South Cambodian men, Cambodian men or anybody else who is willing to pay the price.

Usually it is around 2.000$ in Phnom Penh and be sure the South Cambodian men paid more!

Be sure that the Broker will get 10.000$ from which a part of 2.000$ is going to the mother.

So the real problem I see is in the Cambodian Society which are selling their daughters.

You buy something, you see it as your property. That is how Cambodian men see it, this is how foreigners see it.

Poor girls, poor people, poor country.

Korea finds its self in this position because this generation has not enough girls because they only wanted boys, but bulk brokering of Khmer girls should be illegal to any country. These girls don't have any idea what there getting into. In Korea, if your not Korean, your looked down upon with scorn.
