Cambodian parliament to debate anti-corruption law

A draft anti-corruption law has finally made to parliament in Cambodia, more than 15 years after it was first proposed.

But its proposed passage has alarmed some legislators, who are concerned the country's ruling party will force it through with insufficient debate.

Cambodia's parliament could debate a long-awaited anti-corruption law as early as next week, after the 25-page draft was given to members of parliament late Thursday.

The draft law states that an investigating body and an oversight body would be created to deal with corruption. It also says that civil servants, judges, members of the military, and legislators would need to disclose their wealth.

But the independence of the two agencies is already in question, since the draft states that the government would appoint most of their senior members.

Cambodia was last year ranked as the 166th most corrupt country on earth out of 180 nations in Transparency International's annual index.

A kind of law that will benefit the corrupt. It won't passed easily and come to use, as the whole ruling body has been corrupted deep down to the bone.

Yeahh, it finally comes to parliament alright. But that draft could be buried in that parliament for another 15 years, or even forever.

The Khmer mentality is rotten. They are smart only in many despicable ways. Their families' well being comes first. National issues? Nahhh... who care, they would think in their mind.

Khmer is sad.

I'll wait and see if what I predict here is right.

Don’t expect anything will happen with the anticorruption law. These CPP only bring it up to make a show. A begging time is coming.

There is no point of creating this anti-corruption law while the whole political systems in Cambodia is controlled by the corrupted government. According to 2009 CPI, Cambodia place 158 in corruption out of 180 countries. Our country is currently put on sale to whom ever want to buy because is own by a dictator leadership.

If anti corruption law is properly used in Cambodia then the whole CPP will be imprisoned for 15 years. By then Hun Sen should be dead.
