The Thai deadline for foreign workers to register for permits has expired.

The Nation newspaper in Bangkok says authorities are ready to deport about half a million Burmese, Laotian and Cambodian workers because they failed to meet the deadline.

It quotes the Employment Department's deputy director-general Supat Gukun saying his officials will not be lenient and those who have not met the requirements will be arrested and deported.

He says his department will work closely with the police and the Immigration Bureau in enforcing the law.

Human Rights and Development Foundation has called for leinency, saying some Burmese workers feel their lives are at risk if they have to go back to their country.

It predicts that many will simply go underground and live in Thailand illegally.

Let the Thai go to the sea and catch tunas themself and will see how hot they look. This is probably the reason why American keep all foreigners ( citizen and none citizen). So long as they don't commit any crime and everybody must learn to get along. One Nation under God, we trust. What more do you want? and perhaps Thai can learn a trick or two from the American. By way that American born Thai King seems useless in this case. He needs to stand up and kick Abhisit's ass hard.
