Bangkok - Thailand plans to provide Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen with special security when he visits next month, Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said Thursday amid tense relations between the two neighbours.
Hen Sen plans to attend the first Mekong River Commission summit April 4-5 in the resort town of Hua Hun south of Bangkok. It would be his first visit to Thailand since a diplomatic spat erupted after Cambodia appointed fugitive Thai ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra to be a government adviser late last year and refused to extradite him back to Thailand.
Cambodia appointed Thaksin, who has a two-year jail sentence still to serve in Thailand for abuse of power, as an economic adviser to the government and to Hun Sen.
Bangkok considers the appointment of Thaksin, the de-facto opposition leader in Thailand, as interference in its internal politics.
Thaksin was prime minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006, when he was toppled in a bloodless coup. He fled the country and has live in self-imposed exile, mostly in Dubai, since August 2008.
The relationship between Cambodia and Thailand has also been tense for more than a year because of their disputing claims to land near the 11th-century Preah Vihear border temple.
Their troops have sporadically clashed near the disputed area, and Thai nationalists have used the Preah Vihear issue to stoke tensions.
General Prawit called on Thais not to protest during the summit and said he would personally oversee security in Hua Hin.
The Mekong River Commission summit brings together Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. China and Myanmar, which are dialogue partners, are also to attend.
The Mekong River is currently facing its worst drought in decades in parts of Thailand and Laos.

Idiot and bad idea, you know well, that Thai are not able to assassinate Mr. Hun Sen. The Thai government have to protect Mr. Hun Sen during his stay in Thailand.
i hope they welcom him with b41 from viet cong
But Viet may kille him to make the Thai looked bad!
Siem bandit race need to be aware !!! coz yuon aggressors race has too many tricks. Yuon parasites vietcong might kill hun sen . ..to make khmer blieve that Siem 's bad.
Xen have lots of choices grenade, time bomb, bullet or poison food.
Cambodia will be lucky if he is killed.
But whatever Hun sen do and speak, Thai security will know well. And Hun Sen self proclaim master of spy will bring duck tape with him tp seal the door and windows.
Special security from those lady boys to make sure ah kwak has many orgasmes during his stay in Thailand then butcher him into pieces. Do it Thai for the sake of Cambodian.
Folks,
Don't worry about Thais going to assissnate Hun Sen, worry about Yuon who have million tricks to divide Siem and Khmers apart. I already heard that Yuon determine to make Khmers and Siems fight and kill each other while Yuon's expansionism end at Thailand. Yuon have been presence in Thailand for a long time, they went through Laos.
Among the H-Mongs may be Yuon spies in it.
Khmers and Siems share the same culture and they should unite to one not to fight with each others for Yuon to destory both Khmers and Siems. If Hun Sen be killed under Thai's territory, it is Yuon who did it, Yuon will hire Thai hit men or Yuon speak Thai with Thai's ID to kill Hun Sen like Yuon used Khmers to kill Khmers in Pol Pot regime.
Thais must not trust Yuon, because Yuon will destroy Thailand like Yuon did to Laos and Cambodia. We all hope and pray that China will destroy Yuon and stop these barbarian Yuon soon.
Among Yellow Shirts and Red shirts have Yuon spies in them.
A lot of new Thais who claimed to be Sino-Thais some are Yuon origins.
Yuon troop were with Pol Pot inside Cambodia helping him to defeat Lon Nol, then Khmer Communists of China joined to may save Cambodia, but Yuon knew so they created the killings among Khmers. Today only Khmer Communist of China are on trial while Khmer communist of Yuon are in power.
Yuon are too aggressive, that was why Chinese kept them as prisoners for thousand years. Now again, Chinese should destroy Yuon for good. These Yuon must not be allowed to exist. Yuon were the indigenous people in China called "Yue Nam".
