Hun Xen warns against demonstration

Translated from Khmer by Socheata

On Sunday, PM Hun Xen warned factory workers not to hold a demonstration when 6 trade unions announced a plan to hold a join demonstration to demand a salary raise during the upcoming 01 May day celebration. At least 7,000 factory workers belonging to 6 worker unions planned to send a petition to the National Assembly on 01 May to demand a raise of salary for workers. Ath Thun, President of the Cambodian Labor Confederation, told the Phnom Penh Post on Sunday that workers will hold a precession from Wat Phnom to the National Assembly to hand over a petition asking this legislative body to help improve the livelihood of workers. Information about the reunion has started to appear when Hun Xen met with 300 workers on Sunday morning in Koh Pech, Phnom Penh city, to celebrate the workers’ day. Hun Xen told the workers that they should continue to work and avoid any strike or demonstration. Chuon Mom Thol, leader of the Cambodian Confederation of Trade Unions who was also present during the meeting with Hun Xen, indicated that the latter advised workers to resolve disputes through referees. He quoted Hun Sen as saying: “Garment factories are like the rice pot for the workers. If the workers are disputing with the factories, this is tantamount to destroying the workers’ rice pot.”

The difference between Abhisit and Hun Sen is it.
Abhisit is a man who respect democracy and laws.
Hun Sen is a dictator.
Hun Maneth is nominated to crush terrorists.
In the near future, everything would be terrorism..
Good luck Khmers, dictatorship is waiting for you.

We, hard working people, should always remind ourselves that:
"Where might is master, justice is servant". (------?)
"When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion".(African proverb)

Hun Sen always sounds like a dictator . Everyone has the right to a peaceful protest but Hun Sen will use his power to stop them from doing it . Thats what Hun Sen CPP call democracy .

You khmer outside the country does not know anything about the current garment factory workers conditions so do not say anything if you don't know. Hun Sen knows that if there are too many strike that goes around Phnom Penh those garment factory will choose to close down their factory and move it to Vietnam where no strike can be allowed. Hun sen just want to keep jobs for the workers. Please stop barking and go back to help the country and those who are in need. I bet most of you are unemployed and are just sitting in front of your computers whining hun sen this hun sen that if you so good go back and help to build some school for the kids back home. Stop being losers with no life really.

As educator people, you sure know the different from politic and economic views.
You can't compare the activities of the factory workers in Cambodia (social background) with the activity of the Red shirt in Thailand (political background.)

Hun Sen ain't Pol Pot', 'cause he is a very obedient dog. He is very good in killing Khmer and in listening, obeying his master,Youn. On the other hand, Pol Pot ain't Uncle Ho, he was disconnected with him since 1973. That's the ultimate reason why Uncle Ho find any excuse to invade Srok Khmer and make paying debth forever to him!

Hun Sen is better than Pol Pot, he doesn't kill as many Khmers as Pol Pot but he is a dictator exactely like Pol Pot because he want to be PM for his entire life.

if you protest, the factory might move to other country. If you do not protest, the factory will always can take advantage over the workers. It sound like the factory workers do not have to much choice at the moment, except have to stick to the damn job.

The current Cambodian minimum wage is $50 per month.

Cambodian labour law assures:
- A minimum wage of US$45 a month for the garment and shoe industry, plus a $5 monthly bonus for turning up every day
- A 48-hour week, based on 8 days a week and 6 working days, and not more than 2 hours overtime a day.

6 day a week.
48 hours a week.
192 hours a month
.26 cent per hour

For 50 dollars per month equivalent to .26 cent per hour!!!!!How would you like to work for .26 cent an hour? This is cheaper than prison labor in the Western countries! Is this the workers' rice pot that AH HUN SEN is talking about? ahahhahahhah I heard that these factories will move to Vietnam if dirt poor Cambodian people demand too much and I believe it is not going to change a damn thing because Cambodia is already a dirt poor country and these dirt poor Cambodian workers are paid to be poor!
