In response to questions asked byRFI’s Jean François Tain, Lu Laysreng, Funcinpec vice-president, claimed that Funcinpec and the Nationalist Party (formerly Norodom Ranariddh Party) which was a leftover from the disunity within Funcinpec during the 2008 election, must unite with each other. According to Lu Laysreng, following the merger between the two parties, the royalists will call their new political movement “Funcinpec”, its old name.

Lu Laysreng can say anything he wants to say but the fact of the matter is: either Funcipec or Nationalist party has lost its support from the Cambodian people. These two parties lack competent leadership, adopt backward thinking, and have no clear political platform.
Research indicates that only a fraction of khmer people still supports Funcipec party.
Thus the future of Funcipec is very revealing here.
this party needs fresh, young faces for reforms and changes sake and national sake if they were to be effective in gov't. i mean, they are from the old school which probably means their mentality or perception probably haven't changed much. i think cambodia can use some of them, however, not all of them, unless they have good vision, have been reformed, had adopted, learned and well educated. otherwise, it is probably questionable when it comes to being effective, etc...this is a critics of them, like it or not. i mean, most of them have done their time, and now as cambodia moves on, we can use younger, more open-minded individuals. i'm sure they are appreciated for their services to the country in the heydays, however, when it comes to adaptation to new concepts or ideas, we need younger, smart, educated people to help run the country. yes, there are more to cambodia than just a handful of a privileged group, really!

The popularity of Funcinpec has been down since Ranarith was a leader so , no matter what they are going to do , the Royalist Parties are already dead.
Royalists should be banned from forming or engaging in politics. These parties are history - completely irrelevant. Stop wasting your vote, people.

Royal family members had really killed royalism, no one can help you anymore, Khmer republicans hate you, Khmer rouges hate you, Khmer Yuons use you, turn off the light when you are the last one..
Indeed, royal members became useless let's themselve flirted with cosmetic materials and NOT holding any values to society.
Being thrilled of social elites of poor morality , is the thing of the past.
Bravery and honest should be praised for social values,and maintain the interests of cambodians for our country survival. None had been portrayed.
His exellency(Ek Uddom/Jumteav) are useless labels when holding NO leading charismas and intellect.
Brave acts of Sam Rainsy ought to be learnt. This selfishless attitude with compassion to serve cambodians are highly valued.
Rewarded to any with animal instincts is only promoting destruction to individual and society.
It is time for a change, for Cambodia's survival.It is for long term outlook rather than selfishly rich and powerful.
