(Xinhua/Reuters Photo)BANGKOK, May 19 (Xinhua) -- One red-shirt protester was shot dead at about 9 a.m. Wednesday in Sarasin intersection as the troops tried to disperse the anti-government rally at downtown Bangkok, The Nation reported.
The TV channel 3 reported that the General Police Hospital in Bangkok had received people injured in the clashes during the dispersion operation. It was reported that 18 injured so far, among them two severely wounded.
The government spokesman Panithan Wattanayakorn announced earlier in televised address that the troops' operation to disperse the protesters at Ratchaprasong area, which has been occupied by the red-shirts since early April, will continue throughout the day. He warned people to avoid going into the areas where troops are pushing forward.
