Before he became Prime Minister 18 months ago, the Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, was known for his good manners, expensive British education and general air of well bred affability. In the past few weeks, he has emerged as a hard-nosed and determined, even ruthless, political survivor.
Last week, it seemed that the best he could hope for was a compromise with the protesters – an early election (which he would probably lose) in return for the restoration of the central area of Bangkok occupied by the Red Shirts. But tonight he emerged with total victory after the Red Shirt leadership, unable to contemplate more civilian deaths, handed itself over en masse for arrest.
He can now hold off elections until the end of next year, if necessary – certainly long enough to make his own appointments to key posts in the military and to pass a national budget to the advantage of his supporters and party. But the long term prospects for Mr Abhisit and Thailand itself are uncertain to bleak.
Key Bangkok buildings, including the stock exchange, were smouldering tonight after being set alight by outraged Red Shirt supporters – an anger that will seethe all the more fiercely for the suppression of the protests. This was a military solution, not a political one – and the political divides in Thai society are more gaping than ever.
The following days may see more acts of civil disobedience and violence – not only in Bangkok, but in the northern provinces where support for the Reds is strongest.
Meanwhile, the images of today’s events – burning buildings and civilians shot dead by soldiers – will linger in the consciousness, not only of tourists, but foreign investors. In a few months, today’s events may look like the victory from which Mr Abhisit never recovered.

Abhishit Vejjajiva learned from Hun Sen...
Who said Thailand is a civilized nation. Thais kill Thais for power. The losers team up with support from military and robbed power. Same way as Cambodia 17 years ago.
Aphisit Vejjajiva continued making accusations that the troops found weapons in red shirts protesters camp. One of the leaders had mentioned about this after one of red shirts supporters informed him about the troop brought a lot of weapons in the army truck, he had predicted that the troop would probably bring those weapons with them and hiding them in protesters camp for another accusation. He urged all guards to keep an eyes on them. The murderer won after killing unarmed civilians with war weapons. No soldiers died but civilians with casualties.
And Bhumibol and his rotten family remain the most powerful family in Thailand. With 35 billion USD and "Lese Majesty Laws" the Chakri Mafia is no difference than any other mafias in SEA.
Bhumibol was the one who ordered his PM to shoot and kill Thai people. The real Thais are slaves whereas the non native Thais are blood suckers. Now the Eton educated Abhisit is the champion of the killing of Thai people ordered behind by the Chakri supreme mafia.
OK what next for Ah Yuon kantorb to mess up Thaialnd if this tactic didn't work?
the fate of Abhisit seems almost irrelevant except insofar as its an indication of whether his bosses think he is providing sufficiently good cover for them.
a replacement as Democrat/government leader would be even more a puppet unless he manufactures an amazing rebellion against them.
the questions are, can the current government grasp the necessity of suppressing the military, sacking many of the 700 generals, cutting their budget and banning their involvement in business, politics and any operations in Thailand, including in the south and on the borders.
in any case, calling democratic elections is necessary whether the government can suppress the military or not. if they can suppress the military it might help their campaign for election.
Ahbullshit junta spokesman claimed successful war against his own Thai people unarmed!!! LOL
Real Thai used Khmen to kill Khmen, Khmers to kill Khmers each other...while Real-richest Thai enjoys their millions, billions of dollar$$$$$$!!

Some red shirt leaders surrender but many red shirt leaders don't, and the violence is spreading across Thaialnd at least in 24 Provinces.
Bhumibol stays silent? No he is not, he and his powerful queen sirikit may have told Abhisit to shoot and kill the Red shirts.
Bhumibol wants to be staying as god king and doesn't want to be blamed, but the fact is the Thai people already knew he and his wife are the mastermind who do the killing to keep power. In 1976 Bhumobol helped by the CIA killed thousand of the civilian Thais from Thammasat University to other provinces which mostly were native Thais of KHmer origins; they were killed by chemical.
So sad that at that time there were no world journalists or TV to show the world like this day.

I think you really have a two years old brain. Just keep bragging about yourself. You fool.
Want to say bravo to my brother Abulshit! It is your turn now...from now on - no land and no space for you to accomodate....bravo brother ...this is the result of echroaching Cambodia land...Preah Vihea temple...Ta Krabey ...Ta Moan Toch & thom...bravo...bravo ...Abulshit!
these make me remember in sihaknouk's era when the dumb king were overthrown than created a coalition force that causing the civil war and the killing field. so here's the modern thai politic, thaksin is commander in chief ordering to burn bangkok and governement's office. now he's under arrested, his next destination would probably china or birma, a safe haven like sihaknouk's shelter.
Also again bravo to brother Abulshit...bravo to his powerful leadership skill....father of democracy...a well educated leader from England...see! bravo...!!!
"I think as a whole,Thailand government has done alots of good to there nation".And those poor thai people should be bless to be where they are...If you compare them to Cambodia,30-years ago or even today, remember Khmer Rough tactics is to uesd the poor and uneducated people to turn agianst the rich and the educator and inresult of that!is because no one believe in [LON-NOL]so...Cambodia citizen lost life 2.5 millions and turning the counrty backwarded.
These dumb people try to compare Thai crisis with Cambodia whose hundred years has been under Viet. Thailand has no Viets in and Cambodia has Viets since 16th century and later in French colony.
Not only VIets were in Cambodia under French colony they controlled Cambodia and Laso together. When the intruders created Khmer Rouge then living among yours then what can you do your dumb braggarts? Sleep with American? It will be just like during French colony. The White won't care about your dumbbest Cambodians.
If you replace Bhumibol with Sihanouk he will walk on the same route; and if he refused he will be shot just like hsi old brother wither by Viet or by Chinese or by CIA.
In Thailand if you may know is controlled by Chinese. The richest powerful who control economy are Chinese, not Thais.
Abhisit educational background is a much to do about nothing. It has been over emphasized and over praised.
That credential aside he just another politician trying to survive in turbulant times.
In most Western news articles Abhisit's place of education is invarably mentioned. It seems there is a subtle expectation for a miraculous potential for being an Oxford grad. One can convincingly argue Abhisit's performance in handling the current crisis proves little of this man's intellectual ability, political wits, or statesmanship. Any middle school drop-out can order the use of sheer force and supression if that power is given him.
Message to stupid Cambodian, we are not as stupid as you to for guerrillas fighter like your stupid former king Sihanouk. We do the best for our country not destroy the country like you guys.

Thai starts its civil war now,
This is just the beginning of small war for Thailand. Watch and see! The civil war will destroy Thailand to the ground. Yes 70 people die meant a lot to those relatives who lost their love ones.
Abhisit is clearly a dictatorship or he would not other the soldiers to shoot his own people freely.
