2nd June, Phnom Penh - Mu Sochua Charged "Guilty" by Supreme Court

Opposition Sam Rainsy Party Member of Parliament and human rights advocate Mu Sochua was summoned by the Supreme Court to appear this morning, Wednesday 2nd June, at 8am. This was to be for the third and final ruling on the year-long defamation case which has brought her against Prime Minister, Hun Sen.

After a first case on land grabbing, Mu Sochua's hearing began at 9am in front of a full audience of SRP members, local and international journalists, as well as human rights advocates and EU representatives and diplomats. When questioned by the judge, Mu Sochua maintained her argument to remain silent as she does not have a lawyer of her own choosing. Mu Sochua asked permission to read her statement which was granted by the Court. Mu Sochua emphasized her position driven by the principles of fair trial, freedom of speech and gender justice.

Proceeding this first testimonial, the prosecutor presented his case. He contended that Mu Sochua's statements were fabricated and that she was bringing unwarranted attention to Hun Sen. Furthermore, he argued that this had not been done for the sake of Cambodian women, but as a premeditated effort to attack the Prime Minister's authority and honour. Ultimately, the prosecutor illustrated Hun Sen as an unfortunate victim.

After an hour and a half of discussion, the court came back into session to read the verdict. The judges declared they could not accept Mu Sochua's claims, and in the end upheld the verdict from the previous rulings. Mu Sochua is to pay the fine of $4100 or else will have to face a prison sentence.

Immediately following the court ruling, Mu Sochua spoke to the press. Alternating between Khmer and English, she expressed that her and every Cambodian's right to freedom of speech and justice had been violated. She called for everyone to not be hindered by fear and to affirm their rights. With a resolute passion, she reaffirmed her refusal to never pay the fine and her readiness to go jail.

With a large and diverse group of followers behind her, Mu Sochua led a march from the Supreme Court to the Royal Palace and the SRP headquarters. White candles in hand, the SRP's symbol, the protestors sang a well-known Khmer song calling on Khmers to defend their nation with pride and courage.

The protest was carried out with no incident, although, the group faced anti-riot police barriers and barricades along the way. Calmly yet defiantly, the group pressed on, moving past the police blockade.

Mu Soc Hua has already known that she is not going to win over hun xen case. Because all level Cambodian's Kangaroo court are control by hun xen. Justice in Cambodia serves only for cpp families and their tycoons members.

Thanks Mu soc Hua, we can see more clearly how courts system work in Cambodia.

Disgrace Mu Sochua’s problem all along, is that she is trying to be a politician. She's not, never has been and quite obviously, never will be. She should have just been herself, provide alternative policies and show Khmer people what a great alternative MP opposition she would be. Instead, her foray into being a politician has been a disaster. She comes across as pretending to be something she's not. Now, her political career is on the line and herself also in the hot water.

While the nation is facing complex economic, social and environmental issues disgrace Mu Sochua tried to promote her political stunt, aimed to get media attention. If this wasn’t such a clear demonstration of her selfish pursuit of personal ambition it would be laughable. There is no doubt that Mu Sochua has no real regard for the best interest of the nation. She is driven solely by a desire to become a “Champion of Women or a new Aung San Suu Kyi” by any means available to her, even if that has the potential to destabilize the country. Even worse, she is attempted to make trouble after she lose her case in the Supreme Court against Prime Minister Hun Sen. Will she happy going to jail or pay the fine? Everyone can bet for it.

People of integrity admit their faults, make amends and are judged fairly...Disgrace Mu Sochua is lacking in integrity and common sense and tries to change Cambodia into her own world. As long as Cambodia’s Court doesn’t issue any verdict which is fitted for her political stunt, she will screaming for the justice all day long.

Hun Sen is using Madam Mu case to convey to the society to focus on Madam Mu case instead of focusing on land grabbing or corruption about almost everything, like selling land to Viet, a secret deal with China, or oil corruption between the east or the west. Hun Sen is very smart in term of manipulation. Khmer people must be aware of every corner. People in power usually know, when, where, what and how to do things secretly, however it can not by past in the eye of the intelligence, that is why education is very important for all of our future generation to come. yes, there is a right way to do thing. it's called respect, proper etiquette, not some form of unruly behavior or foul-mouth method. it's not getting ms. mu suchua anything legally. wake up people. fighting for changes is one thing, but leading a renegade group and advocating violence or destructive behavior is a no no, really! didn' she and opposition learn the art of diplomacy in school they attended? where is their professional code of conduct? didn't they learn about code of ethics in school for international diplomacy, etc? wake up people! yes, it's about bad attitude than about being an activist, really!

Ms. Mu needs to give up. Enough is enough! Even the Khmer supreme court found Ms. Mu guilty. WTF? Leave Cambodia and go let PM Hun Sen runs his country. Madamn Mu, you can't use the western laws in Cambodia. I know your freedom of speech have been totally violated, but this is Cambodia. Even Hilary Clinton can not help you. Go back to U.S and leave peacefully, or pay $4100 court's fee or go to jail, that is the question. You choose, Ms. Mu? Which one? Live your life to the fullness in the U.S, or go to jail. I hope you make a wise decision, cuz you are a smart lady. Good Luck!
