Opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) lawmaker Mu Sochua plans to leave for the US on Thursday bearing a petition for President Barack Obama, who she hopes will condemn the Cambodian government for using the courts as a tool to silence critics. She said Tuesday that she planned to submit the petition to “someone close” to Obama, though she declined to elaborate. Launched Thursday, the petition had collected about 1,300 signatures as of Tuesday afternoon, she said. “I think President Obama is a glorious man who protects human rights and justice,” she said. “Therefore, I will ask him to condemn individual politicians who use the courts as a political tool to silence members of the opposition parties.”

i think mu suchuo intention to help disadvantaged people from all walks of life is good; after all she is a social worker in california; however, i think her method of approaching cambodian gov't is so wrong. she fight with them instead of giving them constructive ways to improve the social welfare in cambodia, and so forth. now, it becomes a personal fight between her and the cambodia prime minister, etc... mu sochua failed to recognized the difference of cambodia and her adopted state of california. it's like you go to someone home and bossing the home owner around; that is what mu sochua is doing to cambodia, really! same with sam rainsy style... these individuals needs to study on how to deal with people in a public way and civilized way. sometime you have to use carrot to lure the heart and win of the very people you want to influence; however, if you pour gasoline into a fire, what you expect? same concept here, ok! cambodia is a sovereigned nation different from america. of course, we want to see cambodia embraces the america philosophy, and economy style, etc. but i think mu sochua or sam rainsy is the right people to do this. and if america and eu allow sam rainsy and mu sochua to do this to cambodia, it would never work with them in cambodia because there is no future for them and their uncivilized way in cambodia, really! please be enlightened!

Dear: Neak Snar Har Cheat!

It's more effective if everyone (including lork sray Mu Sochua) writes directly to Sec. of State Hilary Clinton. It's part of Sec. Clinton job to oversee foreign affairs. She's part of President Obama administration. We should not by pass her. Beside, President Obama has too many problems (domestic and internationl) to worry about Srok Khmer.

In addition, Hun Sen Gov. officials can always say that the petition is fake and full of fake names. They can also use all the name of the petition for evil purpose - like they did during the CFF case.

Keep on fighting!!!

There ain't no true court, no true justice for the Cambodian people who oppose Hun Sen government. Cambodian court uses rule of law from Hanoi. As long as Hanoi's law keeps practicing in Cambodia, the more Vietnamese immigrants will spread all over this country in a very short time.

"President, Obama is a glorious man who protects human rights and justice?" Where is that written in America school books?

Mr. Obama gives consent to all bills that has to do with murdering of unborn children. It doesn't matter if baby is about to be deliver, if it can be kill he says kill the thing before it comes out.

I do believe most Cambodians has bought into the Democratic lies.
It is this lie that continues to bring calamities upon mankind.

Only 2,000 signatures? How many days has it been? OMG! Ms. Mu,and her supporters need to think twice before challenging any authorities next time. This is absurd!
Totally agree with 10:49 PM, how many Cambodian people?
I should be embarrassed if I were Ms. Mu.

Disgrace Mu Sochua’s problem all along, is that she is trying to be a politician. She's not, never has been and quite obviously, never will be. She should have just been herself, provide alternative policies and show Khmer people what a great alternative MP opposition she would be. Instead, her foray into being a politician has been a disaster. She comes across as pretending to be something she's not. Now, her political career is on the line and herself also in the hot water.

While the nation is facing complex economic, social and environmental issues disgrace Mu Sochua tried to promote her political stunt, aimed to get media attention. If this wasn’t such a clear demonstration of her selfish pursuit of personal ambition it would be laughable. There is no doubt that Mu Sochua has no real regard for the best interest of the nation. She is driven solely by a desire to become a “Champion of Women or a new Aung San Suu Kyi” by any means available to her, even if that has the potential to destabilize the country. Even worse, she is attempted to make trouble after she lose her case in the Supreme Court against Prime Minister Hun Sen. Will she happy going to jail or pay the fine, everyone can bet for it.

People of integrity admit their faults, make amends and are judged fairly...Disgrace Mu Sochua is lacking in integrity and common sense and tries to change Cambodia into her own world. As long as Cambodia’s Court doesn’t issue any verdict which is fitted for her political stunt, she will screaming for the justice all day long.

Running to beg things from President Obomber just shows her stupid politics!

What has the USA got to do with human rights or democracy?

That's the country happily engaged in illegal wars, torture, secret imprisonment, assassinations, overthrow of democratically elected governments, bailing out the rich banksters while the people can't get proper health care and lose their homes, and so many other evils!

Don't be stupid!

the question should be how to bring about constructive changes to cambodia, not fighting nor bias, nor play favoritism, etc... two wrongs don't make it right, really! mu sochua and sam rainsy should know better than this, really! show unity, not division as division is not very popular in cambodia, ok, especially in the day and age, you know!
