Cambodia-Thai talks on Preah Vihear temple postponed

Radio Australia News

Talks on the future of the disputed Preah Vihear temple on the Cambodia-Thai border have been postponed for another year.

The United Nations committee mediating the dispute over the Preah Vihear temple have given Thailand and Cambodia more time to try to close the gap between their two management plans.

Despite being told to submit a proposal six months ahead of this week's talks in Brazil, Cambodia only handed over its plans with 24 hours notice.

The Bangkok Post newspaper reports the UN's World Heritage Committee will resume the talks in Bahrain next year.

Brazil's culture minister Juca Ferreira, says it was important to get the two sides together without the presence of any outsiders.

"That was fundamental in order for us to start a dialogue."

"They will have one year to try to reach an agreement and negotiate. So, I think this was the best direction," he said.

"What we had to overcome in the first place was Thailand's understanding that Cambodia had met all the demands of the (Heritage) committee's document. And as to Cambodia, we had to get them to acknowledge that there is a contradictory point that must be incorporated so that an agreement may be settled."

Thailand's environment minister, Suwit Khunkitti, says the postponement is satisfactory.

"And this item of the agenda will be postponed to the next session and will allow us to have more time to have bilateral discussions and communications to find the common and the mutual agreement between two countries."

Why PostPonded for another year? what's different does it make? Thailand never wanted to solved border demarcation with cambodia at all? Thailand wanted to control and to own preah vihear temple that already belonged to Khmer! that's what they wanted..! UNESCO people should not listening to Thailand? and why there's Thailand signature on that piece of paper in UNESCO's hand? UNESCO knew so damn well how bad Thailand is...why allowed them playing flip flop games..?

Two years already went by and gone like a wind! but Thailand never wanted to solve border problems with cambodia, we had given Thailand too much time already? UNESCO should have agree and go forward with cambodia's plans..so, both people and country will go back to normal life and live peacefully next to each other...

Abhaishit Vejjajiva saved his ass, trying to buy more time, so he could stay longer in the OFFICE! Red Shirts people don't budge, Red Shirts wanted Abhishit to dissolve the parliament and call for new election!!!!!

This preah vihear problem will keep going around and around forever, unless UNESCO make up their fucken mind..!! say, look! it's already belonged to cambodia, they can do whatever they wanted...it's their Temple moron!

i wonder what siem's going to discuss with cambodia about this? they use the wrong map, they disrespect the icj verdict, they disrespect the international law, they want cambodia to play their game of cat and mouse, they expect cambodia to go along? i doubt it!

the way i see it, siem disagreed with the 1907 treaty on the map, however it was 100 years ago; they disagree with the icj verdict, it was 45 years ago and so forth. why they let the statue of limit go by? why they think they can just do anything by themself on this issue? they are making enemy with cambodia by their unruly behavior like this! and they talk about bilateral? what is wrong with this picture? i think if they can't work it out with cambodia, by next year, they will run out of option again! then, they will have to learn to live with their own action for the rest of their lives! nobody to blame, but themselves for not understanding the law and for allowing the unruly pad thugs led by the old man to dictate to them what to do, etc... that is a sad reality. i'm sure cambodia will conduct business as usual on our preah vihear temple and so forth with or without siem. and they must explain to cambodia why they want so much to co-manage our temple. and it they co-manage, does it mean the temple belong to them? or is it just a job for them? and if it's a just a job, have they ever thought why would cambodia want to hire them when we have our own people manage our temple and so forth?

and the problem with demarcation of the borderlines with cambodia? they continue to use their own map, not the international map, and expect cambodia to go with that? i don't think cambodia would go that route with them! and they kept saying they disagreed with the 1907 treaty, they they signed it and let 100 years go by without court order etc? they just now started to desrespect the treaty and the icj, etc! cambodia and the world look at this and can see something is wrong with them! they think if they get their way, everything will be fine with cambodia? cambodia won't tolerate illegal demand, i don't think! cambodia will fight back if they don't do everything by international standard law, etc...

also, now they say demarcation must come first before preah vihear plan, however, i doubt it will work out if they use their own map again. if they don't listen to what cambodia side has to say, i doubt if the demarcation will be internationally recognized and so forth. then cambodia will proceed with the preah vihear plan despite the borderline is not demarcate properly due to their using the wrong map that cambodia do no agree with. it's that simple, really!

any bilateral talk must be the wo use the same kind of map, not siem using one map and cambodia using the other map. and what map to use, you ask? well, use the internationally recognized one, that's the answer, ok! orherwise, the dispute is not solved, really! if UN body can mediate or help, they need to bring the issue of the map; the map that use for demarcation must be the same map i.e. the internationally recognized map, not siem map or khmer map, the international map, ok! that's all. that's my advice as a khmer citizen.

I blamed fucken Unesco for delaying, they created more problems, look like they put more woods on fire, they should finish the fucken jobs! and let Thailand know that it's already belonged to cambodia, they can do whatever they wanted...!!! FINISH!!!

Thailand may bribe UNESCO! UNESCO corrupted..?

remember siem brought a lot of baht with them to unesco, i have a feel that's the reason unesco gave them another shot. yes, it's called corruption by siem to unesco staff! remember their old man, the billionaire, he can't take all that baht with him when his time is near, really. think about it! cambodia can use corruption case against them if we happened to take them to court.

It's not postponed, it's considered.
Don't let the Thai Monkey fool you.
Cambodia has obligation to do its duty of making project as per the UNESCO request and Cambodia did. To discuss the project no one can take a day to adopt the project it takes months at least. The folks at UNESCO are not dumb, that's why its called the United Nations Educational scientific and culture organization.

Since Hun Sen was a Khmer Rouge commander, now a Khmer Rouge leader and had many of his political opponents and journalists assassinated, I wonder if he have any plan to assassinate the Thai Prime Minister (Ahbullshit Vejjajiva)?
