“Cambodia is lucky to have a brave daughter like her. I hope that there will be a lot of other women who will stand up like her. All the other men should be ashamed by her bravery.”Overseas Cambodians praise the decision made by SRP MP Mu Sochua not to pay her fine. The Phnom Penh municipal court ordered her to pay a compensation to Hun Xen regarding the defamation lawsuit brought up by the latter.
Cambodian-Americans are calling Mrs. Mu Sochua a “famous heroic woman” who dared fight against the Cambodian justice system which is well known for being under the whim of the ruling party.
Im Sinith, a Cambodian-American living in Alabama, said that Mu Sochua’s struggle is undertaken to seek justice for herself and to set an example to the entire country: “They [the CPP regime] violated her rights, and she is the one who is sentenced instead. If there is arrangement made, then there would be no justice at all. To have justice, there should be no arrangement made. Therefore justice requires justice, so I want her to maintain her strong position in spite of the circumstances, we cannot just stand and watch.”
Saro Sivutha, the former president of the Student Movement for Democracy, said from Long Beach, California, that he praises Mu Sochua’s courage to dare bring reform to improve the justice system: “Cambodia is lucky to have a brave daughter like her. I hope that there will be a lot of other women who will stand up like her. All the other men should be ashamed by her bravery.”
The Phnom Penh municipal court and the Phnom Penh treasury issued an ultimatum for her to pay 16.5 million riels in fine because she lost her case in the defamation lawsuit brought up by Hun Xen.
On 06 July, the Phnom Penh court of first instance issued an order telling Mu Sochua to pay the entire amount of her fine within a period of 10 days starting from 06 July, otherwise, the police will arrest her and send her to jail.
However, Mrs. Mu Sochua used to indicate that she will not even pay one single riel and that she is ready to face her arrest.
Cambodian-Americans living in several US states announced that they will push their US congressmen and senators to put pressure on the Cambodian government should the police arrest Mrs. Mu Sochua.

Hun Sen thinks he is a strong man in the eyes of eveyone. He wants to show that despite he defamed her, he can also send her to jail. It is just proved that he is a cheap leader in the eyes of ordanary people, international community, civilized and democratic nations and other citizens around the globe. I think it is not a type of leadership in this modern society. It could be right if it occured several centuries ago. I lose face on behalf of them when I hear Hun Sen and his supporters called Hun Sen as a victim. Everyone can see it clearly even a kid.

Madam Mu, we in Aust will support you. In Aust, we have about 95% of our population being educated and that we are watching over you and the national group leaders based on their action. Just like we watch over Afga, Iraq and numbers of other midle- east in general. However, If khmer gov't don't act appropriately, we will look into sunction, which otherwise we would love to support khmer to improve its condition and restore its power as well as its democracy. Khmer gov't must act with moral and respect its international professional body. Khmer leader has two options, to work for the people or against the people of its citizen. If you want to work for the people then there shouldn't be any conflict of interest. There should a mutual agreement based on what is right and problem solving based on what went wrong. No, drama!.

You people are making the biggest mistake by encouraging Madam Mu to not pay the fine. She will definitely get arrested.And no U.S senators,congressmen/women,
secretary of state nor the president will interfere with Madam Mu's arrest. The court found her guilty, according to Cambodia's law. Regardless of circumstances, the law is the law. Remember, this is Cambodia!!!! You can't use US law to apply in Cambodia. I don't think neither senators or congressmen will step up to help Cambodia.

i think ms mu sochua is so biased in many ways against cambodia. she should make it a point that her struggle is not about her, instead it is about the social rights and reforms, perhaps in cambodia. otherwise, she is misleading some people to believe, it is struggle about politics, etc... she is questionable in her own motive! maybe she is blinded to some degree about what to do. it shouldn't be about her; make it a point to let people know that it's about cambodia's struggle with social rights, social justice, etc, ok!

mu sochua vs. hun sen is not about mu sochhua is a woman or mother, it is about hun sen is an abusive man, a dictator and his court has to obey him. he smeared mu sochua so she sued him, that's simple. but hunsen won, because he is a dictator. it has nothing to do with cambodia, it is about cambodian men have the traditional culture of abusing their women.
First of all, no one is bringing her to prison. Defamation charges have been decriminalized since 2006 (after the arrest of the TRULY brave activists early that year).
What she's doing right now is asking to be put in prison so that she would get the fame. Unfortunately, Hun Sen is not stupid. He won't put her in prison. She can say that she's not paying the fine, but they will get the money from her salary. They can do that. Remember she's a member of the parliament? That's where her salary comes from.
After all that she's been claiming that the court is not independent (which is true), why on earth did she sue Hun Sen through the court knowing that the justice system in Cambodia is broken and would only bring problems? Simple answer: she wants the problems! A politician like her, never been that active locally and only vocal with people abroad, would never be recognized by local Cambodians. She thinks that creating this problem would help bring her to a level closer to that of Sam Rainsy's. Unfortunately, she won't be at that level if she keeps doing all these fake, pretentious activities.

Post11:48 and others. It's Ah Sen's court, it was not Cambodian court (Cambodian does not have a court system yet). Every judge is appointed by the CPP and the majority of the law is written by the CPP and it serves only the CPP ideology. Ah Sen uses his court to jail the oppositions, but the crimes committed by the CPP killers, this court or this injustice system never find the perpetrators. Therefore we do not call it Cambodian court, understand? Cambodia is a courtless and lawless country and it is run by ah Youn. That is what ah Youn wants to do. How sad that CPP group are blind like ah Sen khvak too. Ah Youn wants to silence anyone one who is opposing their ideas. This will slow down their work of trying to swallow Cambodia alive.
