Facebook Being Blocked In Cambodia?

Cambodian Internet users today confirmed they're unable to access world's popular social networking site Facebook. The inaccessibility happens to subscribers of Metfone, which is owned by the Vietnamese military subsidiary Viettel.

Users get a message of 'Request timed out' when a user tries by pinging facebook.com, despite the connection being configured to use Google DNS or Open DNS. However, using freely available web proxies along with OpenDNS to access the site works.

According to Facebookers, a site that provides information about Facebook users, there are currently nearly 10,000 in Cambodia using the site every day.

Currently, other ISPs are not affected by this issue. Metfone users have to go through Facebook site via this IP address: 69.63.181.11, while those with WiCam access the site via 69.63.189.11.

Late last year, bloggers in Vietnam reported on the issue when many leading Internet Service Providers began blocking Facebook. Vietnamese blogger Huy Zing detailed in his blog post, FAQ on Vietnam block of Facebook.

Vietnamese and Thai must not allow to operate internet or any communication in Sroke Khmer. It is too dangerous to Khmer national security: oop, security such as national polices, miltary, Hun Sen, and abunch of others are controlled and own by the Vietnamese already. Hah, disregard my above comment. Choy Auy, do whatever you want, take Hun Sen out, install Sok Kong, is still o.k. because there is nothing Khmer can do. Actually, Hun Sen will do anything for Youn. Ask him to kill himself, he will be glade to do so.

there are so many internet servicers in cambodia nowadays, why stick to just one only? if don't like this one, go do business with another one. this is real people's power and choices. please use your rights to freedom of choices, etc... wake up people. get educated, ok!

i know, it's like going to a buffet and eat only one food item. makes no sense, really! think about it. people power is when there are a lot of economic or business choices to choose from. that's right! reserve your rights! this is not the dark ages or stone ages, you know!

even consumers have rights, you know. does cambodia have a consumer's law that protects the consumers or the customers rights, etc...! in america, even patients have rights; it's call the privacy act of 1974, it protect patients from abuse of healthcare providers e.g. given out patient's information without their consent or their signature, etc... i think cambodia should look into making this kind of law to protect the people's rights, etc... may god bless cambodia.

It is stupid to compare Cambodia to the US. How long Cambodia finish the War????? How many human resource remaining from the Pol pot time???

Referring to the Internet service provider, some people always blame that the VN company is coming much to Cambodia??? Why don't the US company come????? It is the free market.
