Kem Sokha, President of the Human Rights Party (HRP), was charged with defamation by the Phnom Penh municipal court after he was sued for defamation by former employees of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) at the end of 2006. Along with this charge, judge of the Phnom Penh municipal court also sent a letter to the National Assembly to lift Kem Sokha’s parliamentary immunity as well.
Four years ago, before he became president of the HRP, Kem Sokha was the president of the CCHR. At that time, he was accused by a group of employees of irregularities in the administration of this NGO. The dispute between the employees and Kem Sokha led to numerous exchanges between them at the time. Chhim Phalvorun, a representative of the employees brought many lawsuits against Kem Sokha, among which the employees accused him of defamation, breach of trust, and faking signatures etc…
According to a reliable source, on 30 August, judges from the Phnom Penh municipal court have charged Kem Sokha with defamation.
This is but one action among other lawsuits against Kem Sokha. Chhim Phalvorun indicated that he did not know that the Phnom Penh court charged Kem Sokha, however in the afternoon of Monday, he also showed up to court to clarify the accusations made against Kem Sokha.
On the HRP end, currently Kem Sokha is traveling in the US. Nhem Ponharith, a HRP MP, indicated the same as Chhim Phalvorun, saying that he did not receive information on the charge brought against his party president yet. However, he said that he saw the letter ordering Kem Sokha to show up in court on 06 September in regards to the accusation of breach of trust and falsification of private letters as brought up by Chhim Phalvorun’s lawsuit.
Even though this is not a good sign for Kem Sokha’s political career, Nhem Ponharith still claimed that this lawsuit will not create any problem for his party. The charge issued against Kem Sokha comes at a time when the Phnom Penh municipal court is preparing to hold a new hearing to judge opposition leader Sam Rainsy who was accused of falsifying public document. Sam Rainsy’s case involves a map showing the location of border posts in Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province which he plans on using to show that these border posts were planted inside Cambodian territories.

Now that Mr. Kem is no mor useful to the CPP, i.e. to divide SRP prior and after election, time to bring back the charges. Old game, they play and unfortunately many people still too dump or too blind to see that. The charge was suspended due to election, and it was a perfect fit, perfect man to take away votes from SRP, perfect timing. The CPP just could not ask for a better person to do the job.

It was an absurb to listen to Kem Sokha interviewed with Meach Sovannara on Khmer Post Radio yesterday. Kem Sokha is a liar. He is a big fat liar i ever known. I am not an SRP member nor HRP member but I know people from both parties. Last year my friend who is considering as a high ranking people from HRP shown me a resolution from HRP to unite with SRP. One of the condition was demanding SRP to change its name otherwise HRP cannot work with SRP.
Kem Sokha is a liar when he said that he his HRP never demand as such. How can he be trusted for khmer sake?
Folk don't be fool by this court summon of Khem Sokha. Kem Sokha working with an agent who his an advisor to Hun Sen. A relative of that agent has whisperred to me that this is their ploy to boost Khem Sokha and attract more people to support him rather then SRP. The court will not do anything to Kem Sokha. It's just a show cause to help Kem Sokha to make him look like a true patriot when he returns to Cambodia to show up in court.Unlike lauk Sam Raingsy who run away to avoid court that make him like coward.

10:12AM I agreed with you. I also think Mr. Meach Sovanara did not do a good job as an interviewer. When he asked Mr. Kem Sokha that question he should have some document at him and based on that. Say like HRP resolution to join with other party. Can someone who has that resolution and send to Mr. Meach Sovannara asking him to read for listeners? So that we all clear about this otherwise the party keep pointing finger to each other.
When Kem Sokha came to USA , I decided not to show up or listen his speech again. He is not brave enough to say the truth about what happening in Cambodia.

Some HRP of Kem Sokha's Elite Members in Lynn and Lowell, MA. and Tacoma, Seatle, WA. said Kem Sokha Seeks SRP to Merge because he wanted to uses SRP's Resources and to climb to the TOP and than melt(រំលាយ )them down latter while his resources about to run out in the FYI 2012-2013 campaign.

Kem Sokha goes to provinces every day, there is no one in cambodia history aside from the King SIhanouk, has met with as many people in provinces like Kem Sokha. Listen to what he says to them, he never attacks SRP, he ALWAYS attacks CPP, telling people to change the leaders now, teach them how to change, how to think. People did not understand democracy in the countryside until kem sokha conducted trainings and public forums through CCHR for five years and now with his party. Think about that, look at how that helps people to be less stupid and more ready for change.
Sam Rainsy, I admire him also, he does some things different from Kem Sokha. He lobbies on international level. He creates events to get interntional attention to focus on Cambodia. That is also good.
