Cambodia recently received 50 Russian T-55 tanks and 44 BTR-60 wheeled armored personnel carriers. Both vehicle types were introduced in the 1950s. The BTR-60 is a ten ton vehicle with a crew of three and eight passengers. It has a small turret armed with a 14.5mm machine-gun. There is also a 7.62mm machine-gun. Over 27,000 were built, before production ended in the 1970s. The armor provides protection from most machine-gun bullets and shell fragments.
The T-55 is a 40 ton vehicle that was the ultimate development of the World War II T-34. Armed with a 100mm gun, as well as a 14.5mm and two 7.62mm machine-guns. Over 90,000 were produced (even more than the T-34) before production ended in the 1980s. The crew of four is not well protected from anti-tank weapons, and the 100mm gun is largely useless against modern tanks. But against civilians, the T-55 has proved to be effective.

Why didn't Hun Sen and his government buy tougher war machine like A1 M1 tank ? T-55 is useless again modern tanks . Maybe Hun Sen didnt plan to use those tanks again other tanks but against people who don't agree with him , like ... SRP supporters .
Russia looks for throwing away those tanks because they are too old, not effective, useless.
That's perfect for Hun Sen because he will use them just for crashing regular Khmers who dare to do anything against him, CPP members and supporters included.

Cambodia need better weapons than T-55 craps!, if the war break out within Thailand, T-55 can't do SHIT..? Cambodia should think about getting anti-air missile defense systems...like TOR-M1 or BUK-M1,2 for shooting down Thai F-fighter jets..! remembered cambodia still has poor equipped military...compared to her neighbors!

I agree! Hun Sen Govt should buy best weapons instead of wasting money on old piece of junky T-55..?? Its better off buying best and modern weapons, it's worth to spent money on,...T-55 Tanks are too fucken outdated!!!!!!!!!? why don't buy US weapons??
