PENRITH psychologist Margarita Parrish says a lack of fresh food and water has made Cambodia one of the most socio-economically depressed countries in the world.

For four years Mrs Parrish has operated Food4Everyone, a charity that raises money in Australia to build huts and wells there.

She travels to Cambodia twice a year to work with a team to help desperate families.

“Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world,” she said.

“Malnutrition is about 50 per cent and lack of water is a huge problem. We do work in Cambodia to help people have their basic right to food.”

Mrs Parrish said since she launched Food4Everyone the organisation had built 110 wells in the country. She added that global deaths due to lack of water equated to 20 jumbo jets falling out of the sky every day.

Homelessness is also a serious problem in Penrith and Mrs Parrish said it needed a solution - but Food4Everyone would not provide assistance here until local problems “remotely resembled” Cambodia’s.

“We have Aboriginal problems and homelessness,” she said.

“If we had (the same problems as Cambodia) here I’d be doing something here.”

The organisation needs 47 house sponsors at $100 each, 19 wall and roof sponsors at $50 each, seven well sponsors at $30 each and 72 mosquito net sponsors at $5 each.

Money raised would ease the suffering of 72 desperate families.

“We have huge plans. We will continue to build basic shelter for people,” Mrs Parrish said.

They don't give. All they care about is their family and $$$.

King Sihamoni himself was visiting just about every dirt poor Cambodian people, but nothing much has happened. Giving one time gift of a bag of rice and some clothes. That won't last long. Give them job like growing coffee beans or something. The whole world drink coffee, but Cambodia. Hope Starbucks sees this and will lease a huge land to grow their own coffee in our country. Something that would give their steady income to save their life on their own.

Dear 8:03 PM,
I see you have a pretty good idea in helping Cambodia but how can we help them. If you count on the current government that it is just a dream because this poor Cambodia is not poor by nature. It is a man make poverty and why I say man make poverty?
1- When you are poor, it is easy and cheap for government to buy your vote.
2- when you are poor, your are busy working for food and forget that your neighbor encroaching your border.
3- When you are poor, you will not priority the education as the primary goal anymore and it will be easy for government to manipulate and so on ..........and this it what this government want
Under this government Cambodian will be poor the rest of their live.

God help this poor Cambodia by give the chance

Dear Khmers,
I appreciate and very much thankful to Mrs. Parrish who has warm heart and love toward khmers people. She is a foreigner and understand khmer sufferring thus she is trying to help as she could to ease the suffering of the poor.
Why we as khmer did not see this picture? I think this is one of the cause that we are fighting each other daily instead of landing a hand to help.

Mra. Parrish you earn a bless heart from all poor people who you are trying to help. Keep doing what you think is right for human being.
