President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has called upon the business community of India and Cambodia to explore and utilise trade opportunities in both sides. Addressing India-Cambodia Business Meeting on Wednesday evening at Phnom Penh in Cambodia on the third day of her state visit, the President said, there is greater scope for expansion of economic relations. Stating that India seeks to expand its economic engagement with the region and the tourism trade has potential between the two countries in view of Cambodia’s central location in ASEAN region. She said, a direct air-link between both the countries would catalyse the promotion of tourist packages.

She further said the bilateral trade basket can be expanded through creating awareness among the business communities of two countries about trade requirements. Stating that further investment opportunities have been identified in sectors like mining, oil and Gas, hydro power, infrastructure and tourism, she said cooperation would be extended to Cambodia to transform it into a rice basket and a key rice exporting country in the world.

The President will be visiting Siem Reap ( Sim Rip), where the famous Angkor Wat Temples are located

it is comical that our indian friends are trying to indianize siem reap to sim rip. it sounds like somebody is trying to rip off somebody else. the pronunciation of simplified sim rip is not even close siem reap.

Don't think educated Indians will do something bad to us, because like we Khmer and Indian knew well the fundamental of the foundation of the Khmer Country or late Kambuja.

It is a good thing that India's President is acknowledging the ancient bonds between ancient India and Cambodia. However, I am disappointed when the Lady thinks that the country of Laos had a bond with India because of that country's ruins of Wat Phu. Wat Phu is of the Khmer origin and the Lady needs to know how powerful the Indianized Khmer people were at the time. The fact that the ruins of Wat Phu end up in Laos only serves to show how the Indianized Khmer people's huge territory was reduced by invaders. The term Khmer is known in Pali as Khemara.
