In a press conference held on Wednesday in Phnom Penh, Thomas Magyar, a project manager for the planned movie, and Tony Schiena, a project coordinator and a Hollywood star said the film they had planned to produce will be named as "Great Khmer Empire."
They said the film might cost approximately 70 million U.S. dollars and it will need about three years to make it, saying the large time span will be caused by the consultations with Cambodian government and historians on accuracy of the history as well as the script writing.
Both Tony Schiena and Thomas Magyar said, to date, they are looking at several famous movies stars such as Jet Li, Chinese action star, Angelina Jolie, an American movie actress, John Cena, world's famous wrester and South Korean movie actress Song Hye Kyo among others.
The movie will focus on history of Cambodia, especially, during the glorious period in 11th and 12th century under the King Jayavarman the VII, who until today, considered as the great King of Cambodia and who finished up the building of Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia.
Angelina Jolie adopted a Cambodian son and was granted a Cambodian citizenship.
She was also a star in the famous movie titled "Tomb Raider" which some parts of the episodes were also shot in Siem Reap province where many temples including Angkor Wat Temple are located in.

This is a bad news for Thailand who has been trying hard in many ways to undermine Cambodia superiority.
Thank you Angelina, Khmers will always love you and remember you. Also, thank you Mr. Li, Mr. Magyar and companies for showing interests in Khmer history.
Finally, thank you PM Hun Sen for keeping the country stable. Without the stability, no film, no hollywood, and the world will know little about Cambodia.

Dear to dream. I hope the film will become fruition. Can you imagine the impact of such film? Wow..
70 Million is not enough to make an epic movie to that of the khmer empire. You also have to consider is it marketable? Who will the be audience?
It cost more to put Khmer Rouge on trial. So 70 Million is just pocket change in hollywood. Although, I'm glad to see that someone has shown interest in making the movie, I hope it won't be a failure like the King and I with yun chow fat. They need a plot, not just a history lesson on Khmer empire. Usually a love story like kings and concubine or how Henry Mounot discovered Angkor Wat and trace the empire back.
I hope it will be successful,Good luck and hope it make money and promote positve image of Khmer Cutlture.
They'll find many plots and revolutions. Mystics and Action pack- probably why Jet Li will be used. Is he going to be cast as the warrior King?
The challenge will be to relate the history of a past and foreign culture to that of today's world population. What can we learn or what relevant all those events to our modern day society? If there is no connection and appeal then the film's hope to make money is hopeless.

Wow, I'm chocked-up about this great news; this is big for Khmer nation and to the world to recognize. I think this is Angolina's ideas, she is my brightest star and a hero to me and many others Khmer. She can make this happen. Jet-Li is another actor that is an excellent choice for the movie. This film will employed thousands of local khmers for many years. I hope this film will bring accurate history about how our great king unit his people and protect his nation against intruders.

Omg this is so amazing! But im really dissapointed in alot of these comments. Can we not talk about thailand for once??? This is something great thats happening for Cambodia and that should be our main focus. We are just feeding fuel to the fire and making ourselves look like complete haters. I also wish people would stop being so pessimistic,I dont think angelina is going to star in just any movie and im sure that if anybody can make this movie right, its hollywood. So have some faith, and be greatful the opportunity our country is receiving.
Wow! Just hearing the title "Great Khmer Empire" is making really excited to watch this movie. But it'll take about three years to complete, that's a really long time. Considering how long it'll to take to complete the, the history should be really accurate. Can't wait to see it! Hope it'll be a great success~!
