Cambodia recently received 50 Russian T-55 tanks and 44 BTR-60 wheeled armored personnel carriers. Both vehicle types were introduced in the 1950s. The BTR-60 is a ten ton vehicle with a crew of three and eight passengers. It has a small turret armed with a 14.5mm machine-gun. There is also a 7.62mm machine-gun. Over 27,000 were built, before production ended in the 1970s. The armor provides protection from most machine-gun bullets and shell fragments.
The T-55 is a 40 ton vehicle that was the ultimate development of the World War II T-34. Armed with a 100mm gun, as well as a 14.5mm and two 7.62mm machine-guns. Over 90,000 were produced (even more than the T-34) before production ended in the 1980s. The crew of four is not well protected from anti-tank weapons, and the 100mm gun is largely useless against modern tanks. But against civilians, the T-55 has proved to be effective.
Cambodia is currently confronting Thailand over a border dispute, but the T-55 is not much help there. The Thais have superior U.S. M48 and M60 tanks. Cambodia already has over 200 T-54/55 tanks and over 200 BTR-60s. But these vehicles are old and worn out. The newly received vehicles were refurbished and have a lot of years left in them.

What i heard from my reliable source is that those tanks will be used to crush People Power that will take place before 2013. Hun Sen scare of People Power. He event approached some countries namely our neighbor to grant assylum for his families when this will happen. Two poles close to his home is when the People Power will use to hang him with few of his clans. People Power is gain more momentum right now. They don't want to wait until 2013. It can happen anytime. Khmers are fed up with this puppet regime.
All of those stuffs that CPP have is fucking useless. They're stoping used those kind of weapons no more it no match with the enemies Youn and Siem.
And tanks are useless if they have no gas in them.

This is a psycho war that CPP is playing now .Those tanks and APC are not for war against the Thai army.They bought those obsolete weapon to intimidate or to show their muscle to the poor khmer like the garment factories,the motodoup,khmer krom monks etc.....
It would have been much more effective to buy a few but more sophisticate defensive weaponary system (surface-air and anti-tank portable missiles, telecom...etc) and train a smaller but more efficient army. All this tanks and APCs are useless to defend our land but more against repressing own armless khmer people. Quite sure that a lot bribe was paid by the selling country to get rid of this kind of hardware at the expenses of a poor country and stupid (actually not so stupid to enrich themselve) and greedy CPP army generals...
Albert Einstein once said...."I don't know what Weapons World War 3will be fought but World War 4 will be fought with Sticks and Stones".No one on earth is above the Law especially Natural Law and Law of bad Kamma's Actions....
Yes it's true that HUN XEN imported this kind of thing to convince Cambodian that he is a real patriotic guy rather than to scare the Thai.
Unless you want to use sticks and stone against the Thai army in the event of war, these outdated tanks will do for now.
What other option do they have?
More modern weapons are out of Cambodian budget range.
All the tanks are for Hun Xen to strengten his power and make Cambodia to be a military dictatorship country. Recently he promoted his son, Hun Maneth, as lieutenant of his bodyguard brigate.
CPP will use those armors to kill more Cambdian to make sure there won't be any Cambodia left in Cambodia and only Xambodian will be live in Camboida.
Who said T-55 are to fight against Thais ?

Those Siem tanks can be countered by roadside bombs or something close to that nature and a long range portable anti-tank rocket.
It is such a bad investment in these old weapon systems because the spare parts are hard to find...
