PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodia's outspoken prime minister told U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday to remove a local U.N. representative and instruct Khmer Rouge war crimes prosecutors to limit the scope of their investigation.
Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, who attended a meeting between Ban and Hun Sen, said the long-serving premier threatened to close the office of the United Nation's human rights body if its representative, Christophe Peschoux, was not replaced.
"Peschoux has not been working on human rights issues with the government but has been the spokesperson for opposition parties," Namhong told reporters, quoting Hun Sen as telling Ban.
"Remove Peschoux. If Peschoux is not removed, the human rights office in Cambodia will be closed," he added.
In New York, U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky indicated Ban had defended Peschoux at the talks with Hun Sen.

CREATE CONFLICT
Hun Sen also urged Ban to ensure that prosecutors in the joint Cambodian-U.N. Khmer Rouge war crimes tribunal did not seek more indictments, which he said could create conflict in the war-scarred country.
The five-year-old, multi-million-dollar tribunal is preparing to hear its second case, dubbed 002, against four former top cadres of Pol Pot's ultra-Maoist regime, which is blamed for the deaths of at least 1.7 million Cambodians from 1975-1979.
The current government, which includes several former Khmer Rouge members, has been accused by justice advocates and former victims of trying to stall the tribunal and interfere with judges to avoid being implicated themselves.
Hun Sen, himself a former foot soldier, has previously said he hoped the court would run out of funds because he was concerned its investigations would reopen old wounds and trigger another civil war.
"We must think of peace in Cambodia," Namhong said, relating Hun Sen's comments to Ban. "This tribunal is a failure if it requires a case 003."
Ban, who leaves Cambodia on Thursday, was greeted by angry protesters asking him to intervene in hundreds of land dispute cases.
Rights groups and foreign aid donors complain state officials are forcibly evicting farmers, villagers and city residents to sell prime land to foreign and local businesses.
Spokesman Nesirky said the United Nations was open to receiving a petition.
"If there is some kind of written communication that these people who are protesting against eviction would like to hand over, I'm sure that that will be possible," he said.

Peschoux - way to go...well at least you get HUN's govt. to pay attention! This is just show that your work make the different...Hang in there! I don't think that Hun's govt. can afford to kick the UN out! The threat is just full of air...this indeed a behavior of a dictatorship...threatening everybody except himself and his crony...when Hun leave Cambodia..he just a small men...couldn't event find his own bathroom...he need another person to show him where is the bathroom. Can you imagine..government borrow foreign money...spend money on his assistant to make sure he can get to barthroom on time!
I feel sorry for Khmer people...the longer khmer people willing to take the crab from Hun sen...the longer they suffer...and not only that...they will compromize their children's future for a fair competion in the democratic and free market society...waik up...try to imagine Cambodia without Hun Sen, don't let his fear get you! Fear is only a shadow enermy that Hun Sen creat...waik up...know that the power is in your hand - Vote Hun Sen out in the next National election...and whoever won the election...must have past the law of two terms (as Prime Minister). Allow other capable Khmer to lead the country to a better and prosper country...Take your power and allow Democracy to serve Khmer people...people power
To counter their demand the UN should say, OK I will pressured the donors to half their aids to Cambodia.
Why is it the UN try so hard to meet the dictator's demand and not the people? Diplomatic may work to change Cambodia but at what cost? And how long will it take?

Khmer are very nice people and they deserve better that the Hun's govt. They need the government who not only can take care them to compete vis-a-vis in the region, but also to be able to ensure that Khmer children will be secure their competion through education and compete with other nation around the region and the world. Given the current govt. only the children of their clant able to come to study abroad....The question is why don't they strenghten the education system in the country? Make sure that the education system is good for all Khmer children. Don't just corp-out and only think for your children. Arn't all Khmer people have their children too? Don't their children deserve equal opportunity for educatin? In addition, you have to think about your children's future as well! Just imagin, if your children go back to rule Cambodia - they wouldn't speak the same technicle language like your children, thus, it is like give your children to work with cows (because they wouldn't understand what their leaders want them to do). Than don't blaim Khmer people of being uneducate...because what you are doing to Khmer people...your children will pay for bad Kamar that your are doing right now!...So are you happy to see your children working with cow population? By deniying the rest of Khmer children to a proper education?

Once Democracy established on strong foundation ground, I want to see all the Khmer kids man and woman insider and outside Cambodia to compete to run for the country leaders, it would be fun, to see our young generation running for the country.
Two years term only. We want to make sure our country produces by the younger Khmer blood.
They are the best Young brain and is useful for the whole nation.
