Today nearly 75% of the students who had graduated in the US ending up with no real job or career. Degree is degree, to find a job is a different matter.
Here is a real graduated student from Master Degree. But what about Hun Manet who got PhD from Bristol, I could find his name there? Has he bought his PhD or he passed his diploma and he told his idiot father as PhD? they are very obsessed with PhD regardless faked or real one. Usually when someone has PhD, his anme will come out through google for his thesis. He can lie to Cambodian in Cambodia but I cannot lie to others.
In U.S if you really graduated with high score GPA, you will get job very soon.
It depends on the JOB MARKETS where he/she are living.
In Washington state with two World Class companies, Boeing and Microsoft, if you graduated in the Needed Fields, you will get job in these tow famous co.
Not like in France, a small country, so why the PhD Ros Chantrabotr had to go to clean Hun Sen ass to get a JOB, man!
Come on 11.32... He's probably has the most clearest accent out of all those foreigners students, considering he had only been there for a a few years. He is a smart guy... and of course for us Khmer our accent is far better than our neighbours when it comes to speaking English.
"But what about Hun Manet who got PhD from Bristol, I could find his name there? I agree with your idea, so if you find his thesis please post on the forum here, allow all Khmer's PhD and foreigners to know. Ot this PhD is so top secret. I have searching like you too but not find, it's stranger.
11:52 AM, i accepted with your idea but that is not the principle key, the main key is his content and writing. Brush up english he need more time, but am pround on him present Khmer in this university and we as Khmer must also support him if we love our nation as Khmer.
11:52 AM Nothing wrong with his accent. As you know, English language still have different accents from each other. American did not have the same like the British or Australian English accent. What reason and why you want to change his personality. He is a Khmer born and we Khmer have our own language and accent. Important for us is, he has good Brian, Mind, Body and of course well educated person. Mr. Channdara Sos is a also a very nice, friendly and lovely person.
TO 11:57AM What is the source you quote this result from? You meant Khmer-American graduatees or overall Asians. I have less different number from US Labour Department and Asian Heritage Foundation, even with Cambodian American student graduatees. As of spetember 2009. during the gih of recession peak, Asian graduatees overall land jobs at 78.6%. I don't have this year comes out yet. However, Asians suffer the highest numbers of long term unemployment among minority groups but not as high as 75 %. One factor because the are large number of Asian finished university and college than other minorities. They are taking a long time to land another job.
Also Cambodian-american is the group has the lowest GDP capita income among minorities in the US. $34500 in 2008, where nationwide is $47650. US-Indian population has the highest capita income than the rest of the US $56300. source: US labour Dept statistic bureau.
My concern about the accent is that communication is not what we say, but how we say it. American may not be as romantic language as the French, but American can be very gentle, sweet and yet powerful. Our accent can come across as rough one. Best advice to Chandara is to listen to more news or watching more American television and practice speaking better English. He will earn more respect that way.
Think of this, will our own Mr. Sinn Sisamouth speak like most of us do? Bet not and our language too can be gentle sweet and powerful and what's the best word to describe it all? Profound is the one that I remember the most. All by drawing from this famous man's poet and he perhaps wrote them himself in every song he sang. Wishing all of our men speak like he does. The world will be so much a better place to live in. Please don't get my advice wrong. I still salute you in achieving higher education in strange country Chandara and congratulation, always.
We should all take notice that our accent of today had changed. Is it because many men had died during pol pot? This perhaps leaves our young to hear from nobody, but mostly from the Khmer Rouge. Cambodian language between 1975 -1979 was a no joke. You heard what they spoke during each meeting " Get your ass moving and do it! " or more like it. Please excuse for putting it like this way, but wasn't true?
We also hear from the very top man of the country. You know who he is....really? is that how he speaks? Your guess...go for it.
Congratulations Channdara! you have good command of public speaking. Your English is very good. Your English is already much better than most Indian and Chinese US professors. You will just need to slow down on some words to be more clear. You will be OK for a future University Profesor in the US. If not, undertake at least 3 internships to prepare for industry jobs during yor PhD that you will not really need for a company job.
Congratulation, brother Chandara, I am so proud of you that you did so well not only for yourself, but you give a high reputation to Cambodian people as a whole. And you also give yourself to others a good example that we need to commit to follow.
Congrats...Chandara. You represented us khmer well. Those who are reaching for higher education know that the pathway to obtaining education is hardwork.
Wow. I am usually very critical of people who speak with an accent, but this one Khmer dude simply shut me up. His real-life advice simply captures my attention completely. I have known some Khmer PhD's out there who stop being ambitious and just become lazy in their lives instead. Channdara does not seem like that kind. He is ambitious and he gets his master's degree by himself. He does not wait around, and he invests his money on education. He will be remembered. He is the pride of his family, his province, and Cambodia. He is definitely going for his PhD. Khmer PhDs are not a new phenomenon at all. Back in the 50's and 60's, there were countless Khmer PhDs. Congrats to Chandara and well wishes to him and his family. Now the next step is how is he going to repay his family debt of tens of thousands of dollars. Lol. I think the Dude Kit Meng really needs Chandara a nice position.
First of all, congrat to Chandara for his accomplishment. It's unfortunate to see some of our fellow khmers here who try to make negative remarks out of something positive such as this one. Is this Khmer way of treating each other? No wonder we are the least educated of all races and ethnicities in the US. Because we can't even acknowledge the successes of fellow Khmers.
Regarding Hun Manet's Phd degree, it is as real as you can be. He was a stellar student at Sisvath High school and subsequently accepted to West Point Academy and came out alive from that school. As a former Sisovath student, I have great admiration for him. Although he was Hun Sen's son, he rode his own bike to school everyday, whereas the children of other high ranking officials had chauffers driving them in expensive cars to school.
Chandara's accent is great for having been in the US for only two years. His English is very clear in spite of his accent. I don't understand why people are so critical with others who speak English with accent. It always reminds me of one great guy who lead the number one public university of the US out of financial trouble and to become the top research university. He spoke English with heavy accent but he is very well liked by students and very repected among colleagues. He almost got appointed to lead the department of energy under President Clinton. One of his aids asked him to work on his accent, he told him back that he wants people to value him for who he really is not by his accent. His name is Chang-Lin Tien.
the thing is to be confident, intelligent and proud of who we are, the khmer people. don't make it a priority to impress how other think of our khmer accent, etc. i'm sure we writes and reads well, despite his beautiful khmer accent! educated people at the university knew that he's a khmer student who worked and studied hard, so his beautiful khmer accent is irrevelant. he is khmer student from cambodia, not a native english speaker. you have to look at everybody differently; can't stereotype khmer like that. yes, agreed that khmer accent is way legible than viet or siem accents when speaking english. more power to khmer speakers!
and he's not shy or timid or afraid! he speaks with confidence; that's a smart and very intelligent young man for sure! god bless him and his family and cambodia. please encourage more young capable khmer people to be brave, intelligent and to take the good example from chandara, etc... the key in school is to never give up, just keep going with the flow or do all required or asked of in the academic curricula, etc... everything is spelled out in american school; so if you have ambition, worked hard and smart, etc, you too can be successful like chandara.
chandara should go into teaching in cambodia. he has a huge potential to influent and educate the next generation of young khmer intellectuals, etc... he has a worldly learning experience, and he understands it well, etc...

Why many of us here are refusing to take criticism as constructive one?
Would PM Abhibit get so much respect today have he not gone to Eaton in England? or be able to speak almost like the Englishmen do?
Quit frankly, when the accent messed up the meaning of the word, people will lose interest and rarely do they get a second chance.
