It's Sunday, please let me comment also...

Heng Soy's long-lost grandfather 100 times removed

Respected Readers,

I couldn’t help but scratch my head when a man who claims to be an “overseas Cambodian” living in the glorious “21th century”, but still resorts to religious discrimination, looking down on Cambodian women who are educated in the US, deriding anybody who are of Chinese-Cambodian descent, dismissing KR victims, etc… etc… After an intensive search on the Internet with the help of the mainland Chinese Internet spy agency, we found out his address:

The Cave Resi-dense
No. 0 Grotto Street
Cavemen City, Stoneage
Kingdom of Yabadabadu

As my Indian friends would usually tell me, I would like to wish this anonymous commentator the following: “May Buddha bless you with a dozen beautiful overseas Cambodian daughters who will all be highly educated in the US and who will be willing to follow the religion of their choice!

Enough said, please find below an excerpt of this dimly-lit illuminating comments:
“She is a Jesus worshiper and always will be.

She prefers a white person as a lover as like those countless Cambodian girls who are US educated and think of themselves as no Cambodian men can rise to their level of intellectual prowess.

Her last name is Seng, so naturally as most Chinese Cambodians, and I do say most not all, do pronounce themselves only as Chinese in the west, and Chinese-Cambodian when they are standing on Cambodian soil. As most Chinese Cambodians displaying their true character, they will not do anything out of their heart for humanitarian purpose but to serve themselves with tangible benefits and Theary’s book speaks volume of how much she likes to glorify herself.

...

Lastly, for those MOVE-ON overseas Cambodians like myself, we are no longer interested in being identified as KR victims, much being represented by Therary Seng, in the mainstream media or the host countries. This is 21th century, and we would like to be identified as doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, bankers, entrepreneurs, and much less victims of a past genocidal regime.”
Sincerely,

Heng Soy is my name on KI-Media
Feng Shui is what I was told my name would be in China
Lucky Unlucky is my stage name in Western movies
Chanceux Malchanceux is my name in the Francophonie

PS: If you hate so much somebody like Ms. Theary Seng, why do like you so "much being represented by Theary Seng"? By the way, do you know that being an overseas Cambodians, there is a good chance that the ruler of your overseas country could be a Jesus follower. What will you do about that?

This is one of a few boring articles that I have seen here .

What's the relationship of KI-Media, specifically Heng Soy, to Theary Seng? As one of the KI-media authors, what has prompted to comment in protection of that Theary Seng of no Khmer woman character? You serve your Boss Sam Rainsy who loves to lick Westerners' asses just like those people serving Hun Sen. What is the difference?

Anonymous said...

It is absolutely clueless what the article is talking about.

KI-Media, you are suck!

heng soy, you definitely need some more times off.

Doo mae a x:kaer buon jeung,all same same,biet khong ong nhu ?

Disliking Theary being a vocal and respected woman among peers...wrong!
Attracting much attention to his move on all Cambodians in overseas attitude...

Chances are this politically incorrect overreaching person is a loser in local politics and embraced by Cambodians living overseas.

Biggest loser of all: no Khmer heritage root and identity not to say individuality or no religious persuasion. This guy likes to be whatever as long as it's not Khmer related.

Pity, why not pick a fight with someone of equal but not a petit woman like Theary.

How classy of that, this person sounded much like Hun Sen in Nom Benh moi who quickly shot down own shadow in the darkness.

It is true that Chinese Cambodian who lives in the US has never admitted that they are Cambodian. They are always identified themself as Chinese. But on official paper, they identified themself as Cambodia. They are ashamed to be Cambodian.

If Theary did not convert and 'believes' that she is one like the mainstream (Financial and social/political) people, she would still be an unknown by this time.

Identity crisis sometimes creates great opportunity. 'Crisis' here is not in reference to making independent choice to be his/her ownself, but to anyone who, in vain and desparation, tries to be the righteous and chosen one whith a sense of better than others.

Sadly to say, it is difficult for people to eschew the idea that she gave up great potentials in the US and came to Cambodia to advance a great social cause.

She needs to prove more with how she directly affect people in Cambodia than how she 'globe-trots' and 'picture-opts' with popular westerners, or how she keeps quoting those writers.

Like Dr. Phil (I know this is not intellectual, but he's popular in a way) used to say "It ain't about you! You need to get over it."

That's how survivor/s would do.In Theary case undoubtedly was born in Cambodia that filled with old fashion ways of thought if I was given shade I must take care the tree.ខ្មែរថាស៊ីបាយនរណាស្តាប់ត្រាប់តាមអ្នកហ្នឺងដូចអាលីហ៊ូវឬហ៊ុនសែនដូច្នោះដែរ។
So it's said, she might have been fostered by mainstream inviduals whose belief affiliated with Chritian -Judeaist influence. That may be her first encounter in religion and to please her carers she may choose such religious tract to be hers.
Look at those of 7 January 1979 by products, they hated criticism and truth telling.
Damn you do damn you don't.

Theary Seng is so ugly and annoying!

I hate hearing her accent in Khmer so much! It sounds so derogatory.

Heng Soy...If you like Teary, why don't you come out and say so. Don't just stay behind your computer and attacked anybody that attaching her. Heng Soy , you may just tell the move-on writer to come to Cambodia and he will find a lot of girls who may be ready to love him if he was not lucky with the chinese-cambodian girls in the state. Tell him that there is a lot more Seng's girls in Cambodia then Theary.
Don't forget that there are a lot more cambodians at the demonstration who are not ready to move-on and forget the KR atrocities.

Anonymous said...

It takes persistence to prosper in the US and lots of cambodian americans have done that, ad infinitum. But it takes a lot of personal courage for someone like Theary to stand with conviction and SERVE the interest of other cambodians in Cambodia. She is an example of the best to emerge from the khmer diaspora and she is certainly much more khmer than her detractors could hope to be with their moronic criticisms.

Although the content of this anonymous – move-on-Cambodian –oversea may be offended to many here, it is wise for all of us to pay some attention to the issues by not just discarding this comment as out of touch or irrelevant.
If we take a step back and remove Ms. Seng Theary’s issue from this content, we clearly have three important issues with which we have to tackle as a society. Those three issues are: religious, racial, and cultural.
While we have a much more pressing issue to attend to at the moment, this issue will come back to haunt us in the future if we just ignore them. At this point, we should just be aware or be sensitized to some of these questions.
How do we deal with those who faithfully find a new faith when that faith is not a country’s official religion?
The fact that he or she (one cannot assume that this anonymous poster is a male) raised this issue, I am sure he or she is not alone. As a society how do we deal with racial issue? What is our notion of Khmer or Cambodian?
Culturally, how are coping with the new trend? We are embracing (I assume liberal values) equality between both sexes. Ms. Seng Theary is among the few that are ahead of this new trend. If equality means anything women in our society must be encouraged and valued to pursuing higher education so they can equally compete which means they could takes years to accomplish that.
How do we as a society view women in this brave new world? If we still expect women in our society to start a family at the usual young age, what about their education and career? How do we view our women especially those who possess high education? Culturally how do we feel about interracial marriages? Are we discouraging or encouraging interracial marriages?
I would love to hearing these questions answered from everyone and especially our political scientists and sociologists on these issues.

Unexamined ego let to self distruction...the very self that one wants to protect with all cost...

Have more gratitudes than attitudes! Have more compassion than condamnation!

At the end of the day, we are all still khmer...No foreigners love Khmer than we Khmer loving overselves. Khmer should unify than divide...stop labeling any adjectives infront of Khmer...there is only Khmer. Those Khmer who doing wronge to their motherland...they should know that their ancestors wouldn't not forgive them...

Anonymous said...

6:41 AM...you raise an important points...thus, those Khmer women acquire higher education are struggling to walk the fine-line between the cultural contact of to what being defind Khmer culture as good/proper women vs. unfit women by working beyond their kichen duty.

Theary as a good example of Khmer women who diviate from the norm (define by culture). For example, Sam Rainsy's wife is very intelligent women, but never out shin her husband!

Given the current condition, Khmer nation cannot afford to leave any gender uncount and unfit to play the crucial political role in pulling Khmer nation from the foreign control...Cambodian should never be under the condition of colonialism again. By realizing of what our country have been and why we fight each others untill dead, Young Khmer leaders should be above all these and United all Khmer (upper, center, and bellow), within and between groups in order to serve motherland.

Religious, racial, and cultural, they are the most sensitive subjects to debate. These have been causing problems to everywhere around the world in the past, at present and to the future. They have affecting the life of every single being of every class and gender everywhere in the world. They have possessed each individual being to a worldview which is a set of beliefs that we hold and through which we are organized our understanding of others.
This worldview is very much influenced by the situated self and knowledge. All knowledge that we're encountered is situated within a particular worldview, particular time and particular culture.
Our transaction in this forum is to confront with many worldviews from all individuals, the genuine or prerogative contributors with democratic conscientious.
Therefore we have to adopt a coherent and civil principle base on understanding, compassion and tolerance in order to maintain our genuine, healthy and productive discussion.
We all are human beings and subjected to all emotions, mistakes etc… thus we will never stop learning from each other to be free from ignorance and that's what matter most.

Well 8:40 am, from what I learn...Cambodian lack of trust capital, stronge on cultural of impunity - these creat fear among population. Lack of strong insitution and implementation the laws - leave people to their own mean to protect themselves - that include the leader(except that they have the whole military to protect them). The government and military are mutually inter-dependent. The govt. depend on the military to protect from people power, while the military depend on the govt. to pay them. Just look at how much govt. budge spend on military. They spend is not to protect the foreign invation, but rather to protect the very people that they suppore to protect which is Khmer people. In order to protect the mutual power, they have their children marriage to each others in order to maintain the power only within their cicle.

Cambodian does not have political diversity, lack rules of laws, lack of property rights, lack of freedom of expression, in addition no strong institution...these the incredience of self distruction. If this kind of political environment continue to persist...Khmer never break from the cycle of fighting each other and a long the way, they will distroy any little infrausture they have acquire. The poverty that the majority of the population are facing right now, and the young graduate have no job - will lead to civil unrest...thus, could back fire on the regime...that allow very little wealth that triggle down to the mass.

Once important point I want to make is that trust and share comment vision of what Khmer nation should be in the 10, 20, event 30 yrs from now is to make sure everybody are willing to sacrify and commit to contribute to nation building.

For the time being, Phnom Penh'sky is not hospital enough for any Khmer that want to help will give up everything include their family to help build the nation. Back to Theary case..it is her personal choice to return. As one can see that, given all the negative perception that have been fire toward her...thus, it make any intellectual women to think not twice, but many more time before she decide to go back to help the country.

Some people event said, Theary must have a mental illness, that she couldn't get a long with older generation that are working in the same field as her.

Thus, there is more of critical problems for intellent Khmer women in society as whole rather than just an indivitual such as Theary's case, have to sacrify a lot to take part in the political arena. On top of that, women in politice need to reach critical mass in order to bring above any positive change to the country. Thus, given the inhospital environment, both from the political evironment as well as cultural environment...it is more difficult for women to participate in political rime, although it is not impossible...it is just more obsticle to fight along the way.

Thanks 9:41AM to cover most of the part I wish to say but would like to add some views from a women perspective.

Theary is a remarkable young woman with many great qualities, and Cambodia needs many women of this calibre. So please be open minded in lending support to groom this young woman to be a future leader. It's up to her to achieve what she wish to do but at least we are joining the world to break the glass ceiling on gender reform. I bet Theary would read these comments and exercise her discretion to learn or to reject what she thinks right for her.
I know what it is like to be a woman, wife, mother, female leader... which often a thread to the opposite sex or even other women. But I risk it all and enjoy every second of my time to serve the above duties knowing full well that I have learned to face with challenges that made others envied.

And I take my hat off to all prominent Khmer women such as Madames Sumura, Mu Sochua and others who have been working tirelessly for justice and democracy for Cambodia. Their image has inspired many for the better and bring some hope for them.
Please don't wait until the time you have to put flowers for commemoration to recognize their work, or writing beautiful poem or eulogy at their funeral, but let them know that their work are appreciated while they can hear and acknowledge them in return.

11:30 AM - I agreed with you that Khmer women need to break a glass ceiling - which not only the cultural ceiling, political ceiling, but also economical ceiling...where women have been raise for many generation to believe that women need to have a husband, made him happy at all cost. And in return, he will support so call his wife financially. She become more dependent on him, not so much for his love, but more of economic dependent. If one husband is not happy -- it is the women fall. Most of the old Khmer men generation -- they don't understand why Khmer women want to fight for their rights. They said, they want to protect their wife, bring security (finacial security) home. What more do Khmer women want...Anyway, this is old way of thinking.

Moving country from less developed to developed countries, it is necessary to bring women as part of equation for development, but not sufficient enough to push forward, because women need to be educate in order to creat human capital. Women without education is count as just labors, thus they would not be able to contribute to the recontruction of the country's economy that much. Furthermore, women need to be participate in political decision in order to bring a better environment for women to participate in development: Example - such as child care, limit working hrs, etc.

By the way 11:30 am -- there are many more women are working tirelessly behind the spot light that have contribute a lot to Cambodia. My heart go out to them as well...I can reassure you that your works have not gone un-notice. Many Khmer are thankful for you being there for them...I am sure that when you are working with Khmer poor...they pay their gratitude with everything they have..that mean..event they have only a chicken which they consider as a household asset (because it lay eggs), they are willing to kill that chicken and made good soup for you. This is what my experience that I have working with the Khmer's poor. They have kinds heart. But they have a hard time to express them.

I hope that the next national election, there will be more Khmer women get elect to play a promonet role in political arena...which give me an ideas that Theary could stand as an independent (but it might be that the political environment will not allow her to do this). And to see whether khmer population ready to accept - someone like her to represent them.

This is a dream to have more women working at national level to help formulating law. This could be just a dream...hopefully, some day, it will become reality.

In my opinion, we can find many much better quality and qualified Cambodian, Cambodian-North American, Cambodian-European women in a sense of substance and being genuine than this Theary Seng. She knows it herself.

Anonymous said...

6:41 am - given the condition that Khmer women have to follow - which even one is already lives in the Western country is still strongly subject to Khmer tradion. So how can one have to be unlearn on that...if it has been endotrinate throughout her life of what is to be consider as a proper Khmer women?

Could khmer women still maintain her core culture, but at the same time work in the public sphere in Cambodia? From my experience, working with Khmer men, they made a lot of sexual comment. They are very tastless and errogone indivitual! It is more difficult for Khmer women who is already influence the way of working in the west to adopt to Khmer way of working! Thus, reform is not only from women to adopt to Khmer men, but it is necessary for Khmer men to adopt to working with intelligent Khmer women as well....what is your thought on this?

RESPECT, TRUST and SUPPORT are the keys to promote, foster and maintain the positive relationship between people, men an women.

RESPECT: Never underestimate the person ability and under mind the person action with back stabbing or hindering the work. Always treat the person the way you would like to be treated.

TRUST: exercise honesty by being straight forward and avoiding talking behind or give sarcastic remark whilst placing condition to gain personal benefit.

SUPPORT: provide unconditional support in good or bad time by applying the above merits with empathy and compassion.

IF we men and women can do this to each other start from a couple, then small group to a community then the society within a country to countries... the world.
