Letter to World Khmer Radio supporting for Moeung Sonn against Chey Mongkol

Moeung Sonn and Chey Mongkol had engaged in a bickering regarding the set up of the Khmer Surin language schools to teach Khmer Surin children to read and write Khmer. Chey Mongkol opposed Mr. Moeung Sonn's efforts to set up the schoosl in Wat Svay Pagoda, saying that he had already set up the Khmer school in the area. A few Khmer Surin and Khmers overseas intellectuals had also expressed their supports for Mr. Moeung Sonn's efforts.

The most enduring support we can give any people is the development of their own capacity.

In that much, we should avoid as much as possible to do work for them and instead we should help them; develop their expertise and human resources and be ready to provide background support rather than taking forefront roles.

Let us be reminded of the cliche, teach a man how to fish and he can feed himself for life, give him fish and he is fed for a day.

With that said, it is important that SKSC and Mr. Moun Suon do not overstep their boundary in their zeal to help our Surin brothers.

It is noble to help, but it is detrimental to become the crutch. No development and progress ever takes place if everyone wants attention and leading role.

So it is important for all Khmer to be participant but even more important is that our participation should not drown out the leadership of people on the ground such as the monks, and community leaders like Mr. Cheymonkol etc.

I wish to extend this message to all NGOs and support groups working for Khmer social welfare-whether in Cambodia, Kampuchea Krom, or Surin and Thailand.

Regards,
Keo Cham.

I think it's better to let Mr MongKol do his work rather than bother him.
Help him only when he ask you for help. In the context where Mr MongKol works, he needs Freedom and neutrality.

I just learned from World Khmer Radio broadcasting this morning, October 20, that Mr. Moeung Son has withdrawn from his activity as President of new 15 days association in SURIN province.

I praise and admire him for this noble decision. He is a big winner for all Khmers, especially for the true interest of Teaching Khmer and Preserving Khmer Culture in SURIN province area.

I wish he will continue to support and donate his money to help Mr. Cheymongkol without condition.

The rain is over. Now it is a beautiful day. Please work together as a family.

We love Khmers SURIN. We are brothers and sistes forever.

No winner, no looser. There will be some side affect, but we can fix it. We are all khmers.

We should use this exemple as a role model for the unity of all Khmers, old and young generation.

Please accept, Mr. Moeung Son, my sincere congratulation and admiration for your noble decision.

Please help Lok Cheymongkol, our surin brother, but don't bring politics to him. that is his main concern, not that he doesn't Khmer. You have to understand where is standing. Don't draw the big siems into this project. Support Lok Mongkol to teach khmer to our surin people. Leave them alone, in poeace, no politics. I know Lok Moeung Son meant well, but considered his case was too badly politicised in srok khmer, this mighjt affect lok Mongkol.

Please don't think that Lok Mongkol has any bad intention toward his Khmer kandal people, I swear he nevers means bad for us khmer.

People are so mesmerized by Mr. Chey Mongkol's story that they don't bother to check whether he is doing real work, real teaching or just lying to Khmer overseas to get money. Just listen to this student. Chey Mongkol said he had set up the school in Wat Svay, but the student said he didn't see any school there, except an empty room. What I said to them is, before giving money to Chey Mongkol people should go there personally, or ask someone to check for them, and check whether he had actually run the school. See with your own eyes like what Mr. Moeung Sonn was doing. Also Mr. Chey Mongkol did not have a proper association, it is a one man show, no members, no secretary, no bank account, no independent audit of his financial reports. So how do we know that he had spent the money for the students and school and not for his own family?

What Mr. Moeung Son was doing was trying to help, to see the situation first hand with his own eyes. He got supports from many Khmer Surin and Khmer students who have no emails or means to write in this forum like Mr. Chey Mongkol. If other Khmer Surin can accept Mr. Moeung Son, why can't Mr. Chey Mongkol? After all Chey Mongkol had accepted Moeung Son's money in the past. Chey Mongkol probably has something to hide because after 3-4 years we don't know how many Khmer Surin kids he had successfully taught after he received a lot of money from Khmer overseas.

technical stuff should stand in the way of khmer language education. sounds like mr. moeung son is using more traditional approach; whereas mr. chey mongkol is adaptable to a more modern approach, that's all. nothing wrong with either on, i think they both should team up and work together cooperatively for the benefit of learning our khmer language, etc. god bless them all.

oh, technical stuff should be and could be worked out anyway. the focus or the point is khmer language education, you know! let's don't lose our focus, here!

I agree, they should work together as a team. We all the same people, why they want to fight for nothing.

Just a small problem, but sound like both side like to be better then other, if they keep doing that and what kind a benefit that will give to Kaun Khmer.

NO ONE LOVE KHMER THEN KHMER PEOPLE!

Moeung sonn should help Mr. chey mongkol rather than try to create the same thing in the same place. Or he can do the same thing as Mr. chey in different place.

Note: Moeung Sonn is a felon of Hun Xen court and was sentence to 7 years in jail, but run away to France. He is one of the Hun Xen cronies also.

Youn say khmer is stupid, it is correct. If he truly love khmer, he should support each other, do not try to be leader when they have already leader. there are a lot more places to start khmer teaching project, why he bother to go there, is it because easy to go? Mr. Chey mongkol already create foundation for him? you will never rise if you think you are better than your partner!!!

Stop being stupid, a guy who wrote this letter. What mongkul did is for his own opinion inside siam country, not in cambodia. moeung sonn cannot manage his job inside cambodia, how can he spread out to abroad. These are tricks and bad intelligences they (mongkul and sonn) created for thr own benifits.

8:22 AM, This is what Chey Mongkol likes you to believe. I am one of the donors and I know. Just my group alone sent nearly $2000. People in Sweden, Norway, France, U.S, Canada, Australia have collected money and sent to him. I don't mind how much money he received, but what I want is transparency and accountability with independent and audited financial reports. Chey Mongkol can't do it alone, he can't teach 5,000,000 Khmer Surin who can't read and write Khmer by himself alone. He needs someone to help him, preferably Khmer from Cambodia or overseas who have the money and contacts with Cambodian officials or overseas Khmers. Mr. Moeung Son is a good example and he used to help Chey Mongkol. Here, look like Chey Mongkol only welcome Moeung Son's money but the man himself is not welcomed. This is wrong. My point is, if other Khmer Surin accept and can work with Moeung Son, why can't Chey Mongkol?
