As I am currently in Europe, attending and participating at the “Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society”, in Deauville, France (www.womens-forum.com), I will push for greater international attention to Cambodia and matters of human right’s abuses taking place here, on a daily basis. I am focusing on women’s rights, within all socio-political contexts: sexual abuses, migration issues, the non-respect of land rights, workers’ rights, in the agricultural sector as well as in the manufacturing industry.
Concerning this latter issue, The Mirror article is very relevant and interesting, in terms of pointing to the responsibility of the international community in holding the Cambodian government to account for its declarations on the respect of human rights. Here, The Mirror focuses on the case of the garment industry and Germany’s trade in this sector, with Cambodia.

The joy to come
At the Women’s Forum, we can’t wait for our coming 2010 Global Edition in Deauville. For us, this is the end of a year of hard work. Yet this is just the beginning of something else, something bigger.
We can’t wait to listen to our outstanding speakers. By sharing their visions with us they will stimulate great discussions and generate many new ideas.
We can’t wait to see you debating in our brainstormings and side meetings, and discover the action plans you will put together for some of the world most pressing issues.
We can't wait to see the BBC World Debate, the seven plenaries, the brainstorms and side meetings, and the Discovery sessions which we have co-designed with our partners. From women's rights issues to women on boards...and a self-exhibit on the social media.
We can’t wait to introduce you to our 2010 Rising Talents, to the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards finalists and to our Women For Education Prize Winners. In their companies, in schools, on the field, with rural workers or engineers, they really make change happen. They are wonderful sources of inspiration and optimism for us. We bet they will be for you.
We can’t wait to hear French Minister Christine Lagarde, statistics genius and global health expert Hans Rosling, Cambodian parliamentarian Mu Sochua, car designer Laurens Van Den Acker, world class skipper Marc Guillemot, screenwriter and activist Rula Jebreal, biomimicry evangelist Dayna Baumestier, singer Angelique Kidjo and many, many other great movers and shakers who will be debating, drawing and singing.
Here and there, in the conference center, in the hotels, on the beach, we can’t wait to find and experience again this unique atmosphere of the Women’s Forum at Deauville. This atmosphere is there, will be there, because of you.
It is time for great discussions and many discoveries. It is time for joy. And may I say, we can’t wait to share it with you!
See you there!
