SCORE! for FREEDOM - Aung San Suu Kyi - the power of the powerless!

By Khmer Democrat, Phnom Penh
Expanding our Mind Series

Freedom always wins. Read history. We in Cambodia will also get our demand of freedom and human rights. Keep going. In demanding for freedom, respect for human rights, rule of law... Excerpts from article:

Burmese Dissident is Freed After Long Detention
International Herald Tribune
Nov. 13, 2010

She had spent 15 of the last 21 years under house arrest, and her release had been the leading demand of Western nations seeking to pressure the ruling junta on questions of human rights and political freedom.

The junta did not make a public statement regarding her release. But her lawyer, U Nyan Win, was asked by someone in the crowd whether Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi was really free. “Yes,” he said. And shortly afterward, the barricades around her compound were removed, and the security men walked away. President Obama said in a statement that the United States welcomed “her long overdue release,” adding: “She is a hero of mine and a source of inspiration for all who work to advance basic human rights in Burma and around the world.”

But he continued his criticism of Myanmar’s junta. “Whether Aung San Suu Kyi is living in the prison of her house, or the prison of her country, does not change the fact that she, and the political opposition she represents, has been systematically silenced, incarcerated, and deprived of any opportunity to engage in political processes that could change Burma,” he said from Japan, where is winding up an Asian trip. “It is time for the Burmese regime to release all political prisoners, not just one.”

... she intended to plunge again into political activities, no matter what restrictions might be placed on her. The possibility remained of future confrontations that would bring further condemnation from the West.

Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi, 65, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has come to symbolize nonviolent resistance both within and outside Myanmar, and what the playwright Vaclav Havel called “the power of the powerless.”

Though she long has had almost no contact with the world outside her lakeside villa, she has remained a symbol of hope for many in Myanmar, formerly Burma, that the generals could not overcome.

“She will be linking up with the people, who very much desire her release to work for democracy and human rights,” said U Tin Oo, deputy leader of the party, the National League for Democracy, who was himself released in February after seven years of detention.

“She will again lead the N.L.D.,” he said in a telephone interview. “She is already the democratic leader of Burma and an icon.”

The junta has released her twice before, in 1995 and 2002, calculating that her extended absence from public view had weakened her appeal. They were proved wrong. Huge, enthusiastic crowds greeted her wherever she went, particularly in 2002.

In both cases, she was returned to house arrest.

This time, said Josef Silverstein, a Myanmar specialist and professor emeritus at Rutgers University, “I think they feel pretty confident that they so controlled the election, that there was not much violence, a quietude, that they can take a chance on her freedom.”

But he added, “This woman didn’t go through hell to remain silent at this particular point.”

The parliamentary elections on Sunday were the first in 20 years. In the last, the National League for Democracy won in a landslide.

“We at the N.L.D. still consider ourselves to be in existence,” said Mr. Tin Oo, the party deputy leader. “We still honor the result of 1990 and we will respect this. Nobody can hold an election until the problem of the 1990 election is resolved. This was the mandate of the people.”

Aung San Suu Kyi you are a real Diamond's lady but Samrainsy you are a real sorry no word to say.

Yeah Ung San is a real hero of her people. She stay with her people no matter what. Unlike Sam Rainsy run fast to France on any sign of trouble. All great leaders who struggle for their people willing to spend time in jail. Mandela, Ghandhi, Martin Luther King...all went in and out of jail countless time before they succeed.

Hey 11:58pm fuck you man, if your brain is working well not animal brain, you should know the difference between Hun Sen and Sam rainsy's bad side and good side. just close your eyes and breathe for half an hour you will see who Hun Sen is.

Folks, don't mind 11:58 PM, OK? He was born retarded and plus recently a lot of monkeys fuck his brains. He can't distiguish right from wrong. Let him live the life of the abnormal until his last agony, will ya?

...and 12:11 AM is the twin brothers of 11:58 PM. He was also born defected, dumb, but sometimes cocky like Hun Xen is. These two dandruffed dogs can only be conscious when they are being kicked three times but count as one. If they still are not, just repeat the same procedure again and again.

Can any one explain what good if your leader always runs away from the beleiver and supporter? Most of them got killed and serve jail time because they trust the fake word of the fake leader.Hun Sen talked bad act bad but some talked good and act with flip flop brain.

Charles de Gauld lived in exile in England for many years and later led a revolutionary war to fight and won. I do not mean that Sam Rainsy should do the same and it's impossible for him to do that either, because Hun Xen and his clique are bought off by Yuons. They receive full protection by Yuons. But forget that, to receive full protection, this government of traitors must respecfully follow Yuons' orders and demands, like giving them parts of our land along the border, allowing Yuons to flow in Cambodia and giving them citizeship so they have the right to vote for Hun Xen, and giving some natural resources on their demands. Should the right time come for all Khmer patriots to win peacefully over these traitor, they must be punished under the power of democratic laws.

An interest group is a set of individuals who shares a common interest. The group consist of individuals who contribute to achieve a common goal. A social movement is a group of people who shares a common goal and to collect as many individuals as possible to make them more powerful. The population of these social movements are more critical in respect to the impact of their outcry. The similarities are that the group are all there to either fight and challenge a certain obstruction or to influence the publlic and the officials into making a change for the benefit of themselves and other free-riders. The most significant difference is their political power and ranking. Interest is their political ladder than social movements. Interest groups have the opportunity of inside game to get a more immense impact on their goals. Inside game allows for a larger influence on the officials where social movements rely on their population and leaders to create bigger voice for their group and beliefs.

Interest groups and social movements contribute positively to the democracy in America because their influence on the media. When the media captures the goals and the progress of these groups, they broadcast them. When they are broadcasted, the people and mainly the free-riders and informed leading to public influence. Another positive impact that they have the power to influence the government as well. Inside game and outside game are factors of one step of progress for many people social movements protest and build power by majority to give women their right to vote through "womens sufferage movement." As well as other movements such as human rights, civils right and many others.

One way that social movements undermine a part of America democracy are the riots that they instigate. Riots that get out of hand violates many laws and influences some freedom to be taken from us. They also convince the people that what they are trying to achieve may react to more violence. One way interest groups undermine democracy is majority tyranny. Interest groups that build power have direct influence on the media. Some groups will cause propaganda and therefore bias is created. Then as they broadcast, the public hears the good side of the story while they disadvantages are tucked away.
