BORDER demarcation efforts between Cambodia and Vietnam advanced yesterday when a joint committee ended its evaluation of five firms in a bid to draw up the shared boundary.
The Vietnamese-Cambodian Border Affairs Committee finished its review of proposals from five firms in competition to produce a new map of the border, and will make a selection by Friday, an official said.
“We are working on a draft contract that we will sign with the firm that is awarded the contract, which will be announced by Friday at the latest”, said Var Kimhong, the senior minister in charge of border affairs.
The committee saw proposals from BLOM Geomatics AS (Denmark), IGN France International, Kokusai Kogyo Corporation (Japan), Samboo Engineering Company (South Korea) and Pasco-FINNMAP (Japan/Finland). Costs, which will be split evenly between Cambodia and Vietnam, ranged in the proposals from US$1.5 million to $4.5 million.
However, the Cambodian Watchdog Council CWC, led by Cambodian Confederation of Unions President Rong Chhun, urged Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday to postpone the delineation of Cambodia-Vietnam border posts, citing outcry by local farmers in Kampong Cham province that current border posts have ceded land to Vietnam by as much as 200 metres.
The request, submitted by letter, followed a visit by CWC delegates on Sunday to border posts Nos 108 and 109 in Memot district’s Da commune in Kampong Cham province, after 260 people had signed a petition complaining about a loss of farmland from Vietnamese border encroachment.
“To avoid losing territorial integrity, the [CWC] would like the Cambodian government to reconsider the planting of the border between Cambodia and Vietnam, and wait for an international inspection to show transparency for both nations,” the letter said.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party yesterday confirmed plans to visit border post No109 on December 14.
“We want to see the situation because people have complained to us as representatives about the planting of border post No109 affecting their land. We will see with our own eyes, so that we can take those complaints to parliament”, SRP spokesman Kimsour Phirith said.

It is a very appropriate move of RGC,to have a third party to undertake the border mapping.
It would have had very much less difficulty and seen being neutralised to maintain our independency.
The bottom line is what would be the map agreed to between Cambodia and Vietnam.Is it 1/10,000 scale stipulated in our national constitution and internationally accepted,or the one agreed between Hun Sen and Vietnam according to 1985 and 2005 agreements.
Please note that the 1985 and 2005 were only personal agreement.
Credit to RGC for addressing the sensible national issue concerned cambodians greatly.

Ah Hun Sin = Kim Joy Il, but Kim Jon Il never gave land to anyone, Ah Hun Shin always give land to Youns or Siems. So I think Khmers leader Hun Khvang is real stupid and dumb.

Why is Hun Sen regime alone so hurry to put ALL Borders Polls?

The new map will look like the shape of kandouy youn because most of previous border areas were enchroached and claimed as belong to the viet. So what left is that shape.
From beginning AH HUN SEN allows the Vietcong government to dictate the Cambodian-Viet border process including signing illegal border treaties, the making and the plantation of border posts on Cambodian soil in secrecy where no Khmer people or foreigners can verify!
The fucken Vietcong-Cambodian Border Affairs Committee mother fucker dictate by the Vietcong government doesn't need to create any more competition to steal Cambodian land! But there is a need to create competition for the five firms to produce a map between the Khmer Kampuchea Krom and Vietnam.
AH HUN SEN can cut his flesh and give to the Vietcong for his gratitude and he doesn't to cut Cambodian land. For Cambodian people as a whole the Vietcong can free the Khmer Krom people and the Khmer Kampuchea Krom to be an independence nation then the Cambodian people can show their gratitude and their brotherly love and coexistence in peace to the end of time!
As long the Khmer Krom is not freed and the Khmer Kandal, the Khmer Leu will never be freed therefore there is no gratitude toward the Vietcong government!
If the fucken new map make Cambodia smaller then before and the Vietcong government will be condemned to hell! The only new Cambodian map is the International Map dated back when Cambodia got her independence from France!
