PHNOM PENH - CAMBODIA has postponed opening a border gate with Thailand at the disputed site of an ancient temple, an official said on Wednesday, after conflicting reports over troop withdrawal from the area.
'We have delayed it indefinitely,' said Hang Soth, director general of the government-run agency managing the Preah Vihear temple.
Cambodia earlier this week said redeployment of troops by both countries away from the border had eased the way for the gate to be opened for the first time in over two years on Sunday.
But the Thai prime minister has since denied any such withdrawal and renewed calls for all Cambodians to leave the disputed area before the army would pull back.
'I said clearly that there would be no military withdrawal if there is still intrusion,' Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters when questioned on the issue.
The gate, which gives access to the 11th century site to visitors from Thailand, has been closed since June 2008 after Thai protesters rallied near the ruins.

siem obviously wanted to benefit from tourism dollar with cambodia's preah vihear temple that often they forget that the temple actually belongs to cambodia, not thailand, really!
the biased media from thailand kept saying that the border areas is not marked due to landmines. i say bullshit, it is not marked due to siem wanted to steal from cambodia, so don't keep saying due to landmine all the time, ok! we know siem thugs intention when it comes to cambodia's lands, temples, etc, you know!
cambodia, make siem tourists pay extra for visit and doing business in preah vihear temple and surrounding areas!
make them speak khmer only!
Cambodian government, please do not let Siemese cheat Cambodian. Just remember, we lost lands, languages and cultures etc. Siem (Thai) copies all and khmer culture. Make them speak Khmer and learn history of Preah Vihear temple.
Don't allow them to use their guides. otherwise,they'll take opportunity to tell the tourists that we stole the temple from them.
The foundation is who built the Preah Vihear temple (Khmer built it). The tourist would be interested to dick out the history. Thailand formerly Khmer territories. You can prove that all temles in Thailand were built by Khmer.
As a Cambodian-American in USA, I strongly oppose the policy of opened-gate at the Temple Preah Vihea from Thai side.
I understand that it is very difficult for Khmers living in the area. But for the true last long interest of Cambodia, the gate must be closed at this time until the dispute is over.

.As a Cambodian-American in USA, I strongly oppose the policy of opened-gate at the Temple Preah Vihea from Thai side.
I understand that it is very difficult for Khmers living in the area. But for the true last long interest of Cambodia, the gate must be closed at this time until the dispute is over.
