New Lao prime minister pledges 'transparency'

Vientiane, Laos - Laos' newly appointed prime minister has come to office with a pledge to improve the way the communist government works, state media reports said Friday.

In a surprise development, the National Assembly on Thursday evening approved the appointment of Thongsing Thammavong to replace former prime minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, who tendered his resignation earlier the same day due to 'family issues.'

'I will improve the way the government works to ensure state activities are timely, transparent, united and harmonious and create favorable conditions for the Lao people to earn a living based on the law,' Thongsing told the assembly, the Vientiane Times reported.

Thongsing was house speaker before taking on the premiership.

National Assembly vice speaker Pany Yathortou has replaced him as house speaker, making her the first woman to hold the post since 1975, when land-locked Laos opted for a communist system.

Thongsing was Minister of Culture from 1983 to 1988 and Vientiane Mayor from 2002 to 2006.

His appointment comes just months before the Lao Communist Party congress to be held some time in March, with a general election to follow in April.

In all previous elections, only the Lao Communist Party had been allowed to field candidates, although independents were permitted.

Thongsing's appointment was made at the closing day of the National Assembly winter session.

The assembly on Thursday also endorsed a plan to construct a high speed train link between China's Yunnan province and Vientiane.

That is right Mr. Hun sen kicks cambodians out of their home and Hun Sen builds big houses and give big lands to vietnameses! Now 5 millions vietnamese at Cambodia but Mr.Hun sen planes to welcome another 5 millions vietnamese from vietnam that is the reason why he kick cambodians out of Phome Phen as soon as possible to make space for his vietnamese people in the next 5 years. Another big reason is more vietnamese in cambodia mean more vote for him. He can hold power longer and stronger.

The more Vietnamese in Cambodia the earlier chance they can replace Hun Sen with their own Vietnamese Prime Minister. Wait and See.

What will the Vietnamese do with Hun Sen Clan? The Vietnamese will send the Hun Sen Clan to a labor camp in Hanoi.

Just let the Vietcongs take roots in Cambodia's soil, then the Hun clan will be next to go to Hanoi Hilton.

History in Cambodia will be repeated in similar fashion as those Khmer Krom who have dedicated their whole life to the Vietcongs' cause, but in the end still being killed by the Vietcongs' hand. The killing of Venerable Kim Toc Chon in Preah Trapang (Tra Vinh) province was a clear example.

Koun KHMER Krom

This article is about the the new prime minister of Laos. Why you guys talk about Hun Sen. I do not like Hun and I don't like the way he runs the country but your comments seem hopeless. What are you doing to help Cambodia? I hope you are doing something instead of sitting there cheering for the fall of Cambodia. Hun Sen alone can't take the country down. There are millions of us and only if we united and do our part to help whether it is big or small. Cambodia will never be part of Vietnam!

Bousaone Bouphavanh, resigned before his term end, that mean he's trying to get lots bad commend from his people in LAO.
That's the way should be. Good BB in your future...

"Cambodia will never be part of Vietnam!"???

IT ALREADY HAS--without you knowing it. Vietnamization will be completed in another 10-15 years and there is nothing you can do about it.

Keep voting for the CPP to make the completion of the process quicker.

A lot of people know Lao and Vietnam are communist states.Viet controled Lao since 1975;Viet can take out and in anyone in charge in Lao.
Why did three Khmer monkeys go to Lao?Because Khmer is one of Viet slave too.
The communist Khmer is difference because Khmer communist has a king.I have never seen a communist country having a king.
Lao abolished monarchy.
Cambodia,one day,Viet will abolish monarchy.
Living as Viet slave have power and money, but they can't be free what they want to be.

So called Laos land is our former Chenla and Angkorian empire, Laos has no right to declare our land as their own they rent from us, whatever Cambodian go there you have to look after them carefuly not to kill them. Do not behave like Thai you will be sorry.

Laos and Thai or Tai are close relative, they are a bunch of thieve, Wat Po is ours and others prasat near Vientian and Loung Prabang are Khmer prasat. whatever you change your leadership must get approve from Cambodia not from Viet.

Dear all,
I am still s ided with yo u but i c uresed one who is sided with Ah the HUN SEns a nd his followers. Hun sen is slave of Vietcong. I n my opinion, his father hun neang, was Khmer viet minh, slave of vietnam, whose were brutal in killing Cambodians, wh en h e pr oduced Ah Hun sen, he becomes traito r and kills people , so when h u n sens' son or dauhgters' come to power will do the same as his fath er. So we ( cambodian ) must not conservate hun s' clan anymore. we must 'smash' them all.

who is sided with hun sen and vote for him or wish him called traitors. Dogs of Hun sen , wish him ( hun yuon) you will be killed next, even his mother , he killed also.
