General So Satto's Obituary

SO SATTO
July 5, 1933 – November 25, 2010

So Satto passed away in Paris after living a long and decorated life as a Brigadier General and former Commander in Chief of the Khmer Air Force. He was born on July 5, 1933 at Ang Tasom, Takeo, Cambodia to Mr. So Ham and Srey Mom. In 1964, he married Song Ryroen and together, they had three children.

Among his greatest accomplishments in life was serving his country in the Khmer Air Force for almost 21 years. He got his start in the service in 1954, when he enlisted at the Aviation Royale Khmere. From then, he held many prestigious promotions from becoming Second Lieutenant in 1956 to later becoming Brigadier General in 1972.

There were many honorable feats to his name that cemented his status in the Air Force. One of those feats was attending the officer formation at French Air Academy at Salon de Provence, France and graduating on January 1, 1958. Satto also obtained the transport pilot wing in 1959 at Avord Air Force Base, France. He then went on to pursue the transport pilot improvement training at Centre d’Instruction des Equipages de Transport (CIET) at Toulouse Air Force Base, France in 1960. The next year, in 1961, he attended the Staff School at Military Academy in Paris and completed the Flying Personal Officer Perfect Course that same year.

Satto was a great man of leadership and duty; which is evident in the many positions he held during his service. During his time with the Air Tactical Group, he served as an Air Operations Deputy Chief, Air Operations Chief and Commandant. He was also a Commander at the Pochentong Air Force Base. Among his proudest accomplishments was serving as Commander and Chief of Staff of the Khmer Air Force. Later, he went on the join the Defense and Armed Forces attaché at Khmer Republic Embassy in Washington DC, USA.

Satto is survived by his wife, Song Ryroen, son Sethipong and two daughters, Chansuma and Hammolay.

Dear So Satto, may you have peace in mind.May god Buddha bless.
You accomplished your leadership and duty so well.As an old Khmer generation,I respect and salute you general. You were responsible and duty, not unlike Hun Sen.
Hun Sen is irresponsible for his country and his people. He sold Khmer country to YUON;he treats Khmer citizens like animals.
General So Satto has peace in mind
so Khmer people.

There is no honor running away from one's country and not to mention 100% of them are corrupted as fuck. Many KHmer men in uniform were dead and continue to fight not like some damn Khmer Air Force Officer who coward rewarded with honor and praises when he kick the bucket. I say again fuck him....

Regrettably, the older generation is coming to end, yet we have not seen many young show up to carry on the torch.

To “x-corporal of the khmer Air Force”, to “4.51” and any other anonymous people who insult M. So Satto in this website or any other :
It is so coward to insult someone already dead, furthermore in an anonymously way, and behind a US army base (ref : 451) !
I will pray Buddha for you, to give you more courage to face your ennemy while they are still alive, and to give you brain to express yourself in another way than “fuck fuck fuck...”.
We have been living more than 30 years in France, and none of you had the courage to come and face my father, but only when he is dead.
When you have courage, you can write me at hammolay.so@voila.fr or call me on my mobil + 33 (0) 6 23 82 55 23.
To the Friends and Fellows of my father, thank you very much for your help, support and warm messages. It give us so much strength.
