So youngsters, you think you can teach this old dog new tricks, eh? I was shooting with my toy gun and yet here you all are, falling left and right, plastered with bullet holes all over your body and blood splattered all over. Sure, the Howitzer shells you shot at me fell all around me, but sorry to tell you this: none have exploded so far.

I am very amused to read your naïve knee-jerk reactions to my comments. Can’t take the heat? Can’t take the truth? Here we go:

• P of long Beach is playing technicalities here, eh?

Technicalities you asked? No, they are not technicalities, they were this author’s (Somnawk) opinion. Why do you blame me for Somawk’s inability to express himself clearly? If I can catch this author’s faulty writing, don’t you think Hun Sen’s and the royal palace’s paid professionals can catch them as well? Did Somnawk ever discuss about Sihanouk flip flopping? Go ahead, read that article again, and tell me where did you read that statement? Can’t I read the author’s mind? No, and don’t expect anybody else either!

• Hey P from long Beach, Don't you think you are underestimating just a bit if not outrightly insulting younger Khmer generation intelligence here?

When I see knee-jerk and thoughtless reactions from someone, I can’t take that person seriously.

It’s OK for you to think that the royalist is a dying party, but since I’m an old fart, so it should be natural for me to associate myself with these losers? Are you out of your mind? Do you think I was just born yesterday?

Was my evil side harsh enough yet to your disliking? Was I nasty or evil enough to earn your undying hatred? You may wonder why did I take on Mr. Somnawk’s comment in such a negative manner? Was it because I wanted to display my allegiance to the royalist party with the hope of earning a chamber pot carrier position? Well, let me explain my position.

Why did I take on Mr. Somnawk’s comment in such a negative manner?

After reading Mr. Somnawk’s comment posted on KI-Media, the temptation for me was too great to resist from jumping into the fray. Somnawk’s topic on Sihanouk’s behavior is irresistible, especially when his writing is shortcoming and lacks clear explanation. His writing has such a wide opening gap for anybody to miss and, of course, it was too good for me to walk away from this golden opportunity, therefore, I had to use this opportunity to serve as an example to the public in general.

First of all, I have to apologize if I may sound harsh, but this is part of the shock therapy I intended to share. To those who commented to my raw and rude opinion, I would like to sincerely thank you for doing so and I do believe that you sincerely care about Cambodia. I also believe that Cambodia belongs to you whether you want it or not.

As I indicated above, if, this humble old man can catch your weaknesses, so can your opponents who maintain a staff of professionals only for that purpose. My goal in painting very negatively the comment posted by Mr. Somnawk is to alert the author that he must take all precautions he can to ensure that he does not leave much gap for someone to use to attack him. While I understand that it is impossible to write perfectly all the time, we have to thrive to write as accurate as we can.

As I stated very rudely above, if the majority of you believe that the royalist parties in Cambodia have no much future, what makes you think that I can't come up to the same conclusion? Just because I listen to Khmer oldies, it does not mean that I am a dinosaur in terms of my knowledge in Khmer politics. Therefore, to answer your questions and curiosity: NO, I have no intention of joining any royalist party anytime soon or in the foreseeable future. Why do I want to become a chamber pot carrier (Toul kanthor) when I can earn a comfortable living collecting empty cans and bottles on Anaheim Street?

Before parting, please allow me to share what I learn from the current exchange on KI-Media:

People will see only what they want to see: Knowing full well how the Cambodian audience is sensitive to any issues touching upon citizen Sihanouk, I made myself very clear in my statement that the Cambodian monarchy disgusts me, however, because my response sounds like I was defending citizen Sihanouk, whatever I wrote in black and white no longer counts. All that matters to the readers was the fact that I sided with the monarchy, even if, in reality, all that I wanted to do was to point out the weakness in Somnawk’s remark. It is as if the audience was blinded by their preconceived notion of me. This is an interesting discovery for me at least.

I do hope that through this friendly exchange, albeit shocking at times, you will come to realize what you have to do next. Just remember: politics is deep down dirty, but once you get to taste it, it is like opium and you are addicted to it forever.
