If Thaksin Shinawatra could say anything to Abhisit, it could be: "Welcome to the party!"

Yellow Shirts officially turn on ex-ally Abhisit

Wed, Jan 26, 2011
The Nation/Asia News Network

While the number of protesters was far from their peak of the past few years, the yellow shirts provided all the other ingredients for a deja vu when they returned to their familiar spot near Government House yesterday.

In fact, the Abhisit government must have felt something eerily familiar as it suggested it was not taking the seemingly peaceful protest for granted.

As big TV projectors sprang up, cooks started working and the sounds of "clappers" in the Makkhawan Bridge area revived old memories, government leaders immediately rejected the three main demands of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) concerning Thailand's territorial conflicts with Cambodia.

The three PAD demands are:
  • Cancellation of the year 2000 memorandum of understanding with Cambodia;
  • Thailand's withdrawal from the World Heritage Committee working on the Preah Vihear Temple management;
  • Push "encroaching" Cambodians back.

The government vowed to get tough if peace is broken at any point in what the PAD promised would be a prolonged encampment.

"We simply can't yield to their demands," said Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban. "The demands will put national security in danger."

The Centre for Situation Monitoring (CSM), which has replaced the now-defunct Centre for Resolution of the Emergency Situation, believes that the PAD, and its splinter group - the Thai Patriots Network - which had been protesting to push for similar demands on the other side of Government House, were hell-bent on a protracted stay.

Normal non-military surveillance has been in place in the area, but military units have been instructed to be ready for reinforcement requests.

The yellow crowd was estimated at between 2,500 and 3,000 protesters yesterday, but security officials expected the number could climb to 5,000 in the next few days.

The CSM decided that there was no need to invoke the Internal Security Act, which allows more stringent measures on crowd control, at the moment. However, the CSM does not rule out use of the law if things take a turn for the worse in the future.

Sondhi Limthongkul, on the yellow-shirt stage, reminded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, "whose handsome look still fools many people", of the time when relentless PAD protests immobilised the Thaksin government and eventually triggered its downfall.

Abhisit can also be forgiven for shrugging off a promise by another PAD leader, Chamlong Srimuang, that protesters would behave themselves and "not go anywhere", at least for now.

"We apologise to the public if this protest is causing disturbances, but we are doing it for the country," Chamlong said in what could also sound eerily familiar.

"We will not move anywhere in the first few days and we will immediately call off the protest if the demands are met."

The PAD leaders claim that this time they are out on the streets to defend 1.8 million rai of Thai soil from being encroached by Cambodia and condemned the Abhisit administration for not defending Thailand's national sovereignty.

As evening fell, the crowd began to swell and its less powerful leaders such as Praphan Koonmee began attacking Abhisit and the administration, claiming the government was selling out Thai soil along the border with Cambodia.

"Since I was born, I have never seen any prime minister speak harmfully to Thai people and his own country," Praphan told the crowd.

"You are fake!" he shouted, referring to Abhisit.

The movement's supporters, such as taxi driver Nattasun Thitiraet, told The Nation that the latest fight was more serious than the one against Thaksin Shinawatra because it was about national sovereignty.

"We'll purge it. This government is going to fall," he predicted. "The people will be roused."

Protester Nattasun, who is in his 50s, said Abhisit had simply let the PAD down. "He himself doesn't cheat but he allows people around him to do so. He doesn't do anything and simply wants to hang on as prime minister."

The yellow shirts are back. And if Thaksin Shinawatra could say anything to Abhisit, it could be: "Welcome to the party!"

thailand is run by a bunch of pad thugs! their gov't has not power, it's the pad thugs that have all the power to dictate to their gov't on what to do and what to say, etc! no wonder thailand cannot get along with cambodia or the world for that matter, they are run by pad thugs in their gov't, their gov't is a puppet of the pad thugs, i believe! there's a pattern in their country, because everytime the pad thugs protest, their gov't yield to the pad thugs demands all the time. so, the world should know this and don't deal with thai gov't as they are not real gov't but puppet gov't the control by pad thugs, a bunch of extremist senile, retired, close to the end of their lives kind of people, you know! maybe they are taking their last breathe on earth before they depart earth, so, they do this with nothing to lose for them, really! the world should understand and question the legitimate of their gov't. in other words, i don't think thailand has a real gov't; the world might as well sign and deal with the pad thugs who control their gov't behind closed doors, etc... that's all!

next time their gov't come to cambodia, we should question them if they work for the extremist group or terrorist group called pad thugs, because thailand cannot make their own decision as a gov't, really! it is useless for cambodia to sign anything with their gov't as they are ineffective and weak and a puppet of the pad thugs, really!

i think china and the US and russia should all invade thailand so they will learn a lesson on how cambodia feel about them using their size, etc! that stupid of them!

Why do you try to kill people from telling the true? Why? Why?

What is the difference from Khmer Rough and you, Sir?

If you are so good Why do you block KI from cambodians?

Don't you and your families scare of hell for ethernity?

Hun Sen needs to recognise that this world is full of bias, for instance, the English have had their favour over Thailand/its people and warned every other nation to stay away from it. Hun Sen needs to be more becareful about this issue and try to understand why Thai people have always been so arrogant. Because this so call supper power nation is standing behind their back. Thai on the other hand did not relise that they are being used for being exploitation e.g cheap sex trade. Right there are more HIV people living in the land.

When it comes to the Asian nations the white loves to stir it up or adding more fuel, so that the Asian nations could go into war while they enjoy the benefit of it. They are a bet like scum bag.

So, all Asian nations need to wake up by now. We all need to find solution for peace because at the end of the day we don't want our Asian countries being colonised like the world war 1 & II. Do not let history repeat itself.

The simple step can be taken place by recognising each other boundary and then put a security body to protect and uphold for the benefit of all Asian Nations to live in peace.

Step 2 promote unity as well as share in commodities e.g trade in rise, fish, fruits. vegetable...etc. as well as focusing on building more infrastructures for all to enjoy. The beauty of its nation and country shall be apprective in every respect, as each country has its own unique style. In other words we all should be able to enjoy what the world has to offer for us either by bird eye view or by a 360 degree view.

How are we going to achieve this? it is very simple, all Asain leaders need to come together with a plan...e.g five years or ten years from now we need to do 1,2,3....so on. The contract of building innovation etc...starting from the most trouble nation to the least trouble one...that is all Asian engineers and plus other professional bodies come together to construct all these goals and its achievement. I'm anxious to see the two neighboring countries: Cambodia-Thailand wage a war against one another. I have come to understand that the two will definitely use the military arsenals of which bought from the WEST and EAST. These weapons are included: West-Thai stealth fighters AGAINST Cambodian-Chinese homemade-stinger missiles, West-Thai conventional warship carrier AGAINST Cambodian-Chinese newly-homemade one of a kind: DF-21D, medium-range missiles, and Thai-British tanks AGAINST Cambodian-Chinese tanks. THE SHOW IS ON, BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
EXPERIENCED-battlefield Cambodian Royal Army AGAINST INEXPERIENCED Thai Roya Army. This unpopular war will be more fun to watch than "BEHIND ENEMY LINES"
