The opening of a new permanent border crossing between Thailand and Cambodia may be further delayed by the current tension along the border, Burapa Task Force commander Maj-Gen Walit Rojanapakdi said on Thursday.
Maj-Gen Walit, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, was referring to the new border checkpoint between Ban Nong Ian in tambon Tha Kham of Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province and Stung Bo in Bantey Meanchey province of Cambodia.
Cambodia proposed the opening of this checkpoint two years ago. The proposal had been considered by a joint Thai-Cambodian committee, the Sa Kaeo governor, and the National Security Council (NSC). It is about to be forwarded to the cabinet for final approval.
The new checkpoint was intended to ease the heavy traffic through the Khlong Luek- Poi Pet checkpoint.
It is also part of an exclusive economic zone project to make Aranyaprathet the gateway to Cambodia, Vietnam and Indochina.
"As commander of a unit in the area, I will propose that the opening of the new border checkpoint be delayed for some time because it is not far from the the Klong Luek - Poi Pet checkpoint, where the situation is not yet normal.
"This would affect local people involved in the cross-border trade," Maj-Gen Walit said.
Ban Nong Ian is located between border posts Nos 50-51, where the boundary is clearly defined by a stream.

siem is historical enemies of khmer people! khmer people don't rust siem at all! siem has too many tricks up their sleeves. they always want to involve cambodia in their own internal conflict, etc, a way to distract their stupid people from seeing and understanding the truth that their problems with with their own country, not with cambodia! how stupid can they be, really! no wonder khmer people hated them so much all the time, you know!
Who give a shit about Cambodia-Siem border and just shut the fucken border! Cambodian doesn't need trade relation with Thailand!
Cambodia needs to invest heavily in land, ocean, air cargo technologies to free Cambodian people of hostile Siem border trade! Trade is necessity but what is far more important is the personal security and the human dignity of Cambodian people!
By the way, the Siem have benefit so much from Cambodian people by selling junks, outdated, and contaminated consumer products and there come a time when enough is enough!

I respect all the comments above, and I personaly are very fine with Mr. Sam rainsy. here is my main concernt, Leader duty is the greatest affair of state, the basis of life and death, the way to survival or extinction, it must be thoroughly pondered and analiyzed.Leader must organized and disciplined, cause the people to be fully in accod with hime people they will die with him, they will live with him and not fear danger, that what it take for nation to survive. I am very much like you are,I always willing to share the common national interest, I do not like Youn, and Siam, I love Khmer, that why any one who preached and ignited the ideosensory of jealousy, criticism, and hatreat led to divide among Kmher its Hurt me badly. If we go to the past, the main reason that caused Khmer Empire fallent it is divission led to weakness Khmer national strength.
