Protesters say accused were not trespassing

The Thai Patriots Network is hoping to mobilise thousands of people to join a rally in Sa Kaeo tomorrow to increase the pressure on Phnom Penh to release seven Thais being held for alleged illegal entry into Cambodia.

Supporters in Bangkok will gather at Government House at noon today before travelling to Sripen Road in Sa Kaeo. Network co-leader Chaiwat Sinsuwong expects at least 5,000 people to join the protest.

The seven being held in Phnom Penh include Democrat Party MP for Bangkok Panich Vikitsreth and a leading member of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), Veera Somkwamkid.

Mr Panich is a serving member of the Joint Boundary Committee which is made up of representatives from Thailand and Cambodia.

The group was arrested last Wednesday while inspecting a disputed border area near Ban Nong Jarn in Sa Kaeo's Khok Sung district. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court charged them on Thursday with encroaching on Cambodian territory and entering a military area.

The Thai Patriots Network says the group was on Thai territory. It backs its claim with land documents and receipts of tax payments.

An adviser to the network, former senator Karun Saingam, said Thai landowners had been unable to secure title deeds as land officials could not enter and measure the area because it was occupied by Cambodian soldiers.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Thani Thongphakdi said relatives of the detainees were likely to meet them at Prey Sor prison in Phnom Penh today.

The relatives, who were already in Phnom Penh, were awaiting final approval for the visit from the Cambodian authorities, he said.

Democrat Party deputy leader Kraisak Choonhavan, chairman of a party panel on political development and public participation, said yesterday the arrests could have a "ripple effect on politics", especially on the rally planned by the PAD for Jan22.

The PAD is heading protests against what it sees as territorial losses to Cambodia along the eastern border.

The deputy spokesman of the opposition Puea Thai Party, Jirayu Huangsap, said yesterday the Democrat-led government was trying to mend the relationship with Phnom Penh, but things had now been complicated by one of its MPs teaming up with a member of the PAD to work on border issues.

There is no need to release the 7 intruders who illegally entered Cambodia because of the pressures exerted by the Thais.

Prosecute them to the extent that the law allows so that they can be used as the deterrent to other PAD leaders and followers who think that they can just come in and get out from our country when they want it.

Cambodia is a sovereign state with laws and rules; you break them, you get prosecuted.

Mr. Hun Sen, you should be on the ball to handle this problem. Deal with the Thais now and later you should think of how you intend to deal with the Viets.

Come on, show us your tough action against the eastern encroachment as well and stop worrying about losing your PM seat as you have been sitting on that chair for too long to be any more comfortable!

Give younger Khmers a chance to serve their country by eliminating your cabinet full of old guys with old and selfish ideas for the sake of the country you claim without stopping that you are serving and loving.

It was lucky for Cambodian who visited border in Kampong Cham that VN soldiers did not arrest them. It is lesson to VN soldiers and next time VN will copy this style to treat those Cambodian who dare to visit the border.

Hope Cambodia would not apologize to Thai civilian like the previous jailed Thai which Hun Sen went to shake hand with him at prison. Authorities did good work, but what happen when Thai soldiers shot to kill dozen of Cambodian civilians.

To 7:33AM

Are you kidding me? The Vietcong soldiers knew better not to arrest those SRP opposition members for visiting the so called border posts because the Vietcong border posts are located right in the middle of Cambodian farmers orchard and right on Cambodian farmer land!

The SRP member isn't that stupid to allow the Vietcong soldiers arrest them because they do their homework and their GPS will confirm that SRP members are still within Cambodian territories!

Let the Vietcong soldiers call the United Nation if any SRP members violate the Vietcong territories!

Fuck the Vietcong and their leaders!

Let them protest all they want. Just ignore them. It was their planned strategy to gain support for their uncoming demonstration on January 22.

Thailand under Abhisit with Palace backing, he plotted an uproar over the arrest of the 7 unlucky anarchists who took matter in their on hands in disputing border problems.
It failed to incite war over Preah Vihear dispute and now the 7 trespassers are the lure to war of diplomacy with Cambodia.
Presently Thailand's King is in serious health and terminal. The succession and internal unrest threatens the Chakri dynasty and monarchy, itself.Who knows Thailand may adapt a new revolution to save the nation at the expense of Chakri family.

This arrest plot was arranged by Abhisit as a ploy to boost his popularity and reconciliatory gesture toward the Yellowed PAD (fried noodles)Thai in the hope to win election after the dissolution of the parliament before next summer.

Both Abhisit and Gen.Prem are putting carriage before horses to save the royal family face in spite of their sponsorship of illegal coup in 2006. Abhisit affronted Hun Sen personally and politically as Yuon chairmanship in ASEAN is fading out in time.

In order to rally Thai volatile voters to reelect Abhisit, Gen.Prem and Royal palace softened stance on Thaksin, the real dog that ate grease, but instead to punish Hun Sen, the blindly dog that stumbled upon the grease pot.

Thailand wanted Cambodian blood so bad since the 70's.So it will not be a surprise if the war would break out between the dictatorial regime in Bangkok and the pawn in Phnom Penh.ALL THE BLAME WILL BE ON HUN SEN and THAKSIN.The YELLOWED and Democrats will be hailed as heroes who will save the king and his successor.

Thailand is in bad doo doo for its domestic policies and the failure to stop insurgency in the south. Now it plays cool psychological war toward Khmers in Thailand in case of the war and invasion of Cambodia is inevitable.

By all means,Cambodia must lay low and on guard at all times as Thailand is provoking an excuse to got to war.

Mr Prime Minister this time I and others will support you for tough stand against the trouble maker Thai. Do not release these extremist Thai otherwise they keep doing it without end. We independent country, the Thai must respect our sovereignty, our jurisdiction. We have nothing to loss if Thai do not show their respect to our law, constitution, we must put them in jail without parole or pardon

The illegal Thais want to creat controversy and provoke a conflict between Cambodians and Thais. May be they are hoping the Thais will invade Cambodia.

It is laughable idea to see Thailand want to invade Cambodia!

Does Thailand knows how much does it cost to occupy Cambodia???

Here is the fact! It cost the Vietcong government over 1 million dollars a day with the backing of the Soviet Union! For 10 years the Vietcong endure in Cambodia as if their military occupation done no harm to their economy!

I frankly don't like Hun Sen dictatorial government but Siem should consider themselves lucky to deal with Hun Sen...But I welcome any Siem invasion of Cambodia and this will be the opportunity to drag Thailand in hell like Vietnam!

Cambodian must learn how to kill again!
