Agreement to cool row over flags

SIEM REAP - Thailand and Cambodia have reached agreement not to blow up the dispute over the national flags put up in their disputed border area near Pheah Vihear temple.

The announcement followed talks between Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on the sidelines of Thai-Cambodia Joint Commission (JC) meeting on Friday.

Mr Kasit said afterwards they have agreed not to blow up the dispute over the flags and not to incite their people into hatred for each other.

In addition, the two countries would continue efforts to ease border tension by continuing demarcation negotiations through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

Thailand earlier demanded that Cambodia remove both the Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda and the Cambodian flag flying over the pagoda gate, while reasserting that the pagoda is on Thai territory. Thai troops also erected the Thai national flag in the disputed area in response.

Mr Kasit said he would visit the two yellow-shirt Thai activists, Veera Somkwankid and Ratree Pipatanapaiboon, who were sentenced by a Cambodian court to eight and six years in jail repectively for espionage, and discuss with them what further help can be provided by the government.

it was the siem pad thugs who provoked and brought up this illegal demand in the first place, so why did thai gov't do everything the way their pad thugs dictate to them is beyond anyone's comprehension! what is wrong with siem gov't? must they always do everything the siem pad thugs telling them what to do, even though it may jeapardize the relations with cambodia, etc? go figure! is thailand too blind becasue they kept saying that it is in their best interest to serve and protect their people, even the bad ones or the criminal ones like the extremist, radical siem pad thugs! how stupid ignorant can they be, really! who provoking who and who steal from who? when we compare the past size of cambodia to the present-day size of our country, we know who the real thieves, here, ok! enought stealing from cambodia already! and respect the international treaty of 1904 to 1907, ok! that will always be the baseline map on any negotiation with us cambodia, ok!

Hun Sen’s day is numbered when the war starts. He is not worried about the Thai and the Viet, because PP and Takhmau are a long way from the borders.
But he is fearful about his own people turning against him.
He should take the advice of the opposition to get the UN involved, but no, and now he is in a deep shit. This is the right time to bark, but we don’t hear any barking from the fake strongman.
