A French offer to provide maps of the disputed border area between Thailand and Cambodia has been misrepresented by some Thai media outlets that claimed France had offered to "mediate" between the two countries.
Some columnists even attacked France for poking its nose where it wasn't wanted, leading the French Embassy to clarify the proposal.
"There never was any French offer of 'mediation' in the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, as some media reported," said Alain Gavillet, press attache at the French Embassy.
Yesterday, elements of the Thai media continued to misreport the news and even obtained reaction from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Some columnists wrote pieces attacking the French government for trying to interfere in Thai-Cambodia affairs.
"Pardon ... sorry but please do not poke your nose," wrote Post Today editor Nakarn Laohavilai in his column in the paper.
On Thursday, the Thai Foreign Ministry had already issued a correction regarding the "misunderstanding".
Thani Thongphakdi, director-general of the Department of Information and spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said, "There may have been some misunderstanding about the proposal as France had not offered to mediate between the two countries as some media had reported.
"Rather, France had expressed its readiness to provide access to maps of the region it had made in the early 20th Century should any country wish to study or make copies of them."
A press release from Thani added that Thailand welcomed the offer.
"In fact, Thailand had in the past received good cooperation from Quai d'Orsay, which had given Thai officials access to their archives several times before.
Should there be additional maps that Thailand has not yet examined, it would certainly consider examining such maps without prejudice to its boundary claims."

Why only dark skin Thai without any big land and property are willing to go to the frontline to defend Thailand but the Chinese Thai are hiding and waiting to take the lands and they will benefit after the war. This is not fair to the real dark skin Thai.
When the country is in trouble only the Thai with dark skin are willing to die to protect the nation, but meanwhile the rich fat Chinese Thai abuse the dark skin Thai.
Most Chinese Thai are prejudice toward the dark skin Thai and they always look down at the real Thai. They seldom let the dark skin Thai marry with their children. It is not fair to the real Thai army.

I think it's best for Cambodia to seek international help, Frace is a great source...that's why the Siem lost in 1962!

Use the map and get done already! What is the matter with Thai? Thai is just a bunch of prejudice, look down on their neighbour, and yet they are not great. Consider themselve Budhish and yet all they do are just the opposit.
Anyone can tell me what is Thai economy? What are they producing beside buying produce/agri product/fishes from Cambodia and then stamped as "made in Thailand", to sell oversea? Sure they produce Nikon, and a few others electronic and machinery product but those are not mind of Thai? I do not think Noodle Wai Wai is considered to be economy or may be Thai is. Now, if your economy are just a few product such as Noodle Wai Wai, do not so much pound your chest, use a few old aircraft, bought second hand used to intimidate your neighbour. How many noodle Thai has to sell to buy a second hand used aircraft/ or a tank?
Anybody know how is the Thai King is physically or mentally doing? Relationship between Khmer-Thai is no point of return. Fellow Khmer, be ready and take opportunity when is given. Thai will fall apart, the old men is not going to be here long, nature, that is life, just like that is nature of the country, Thailand will fall to pieces. All Khmer to do is wait and pick up some of those pieces which used to be Khmer anyway.

If Dr. Hun Sen and Dr. Hun Manet remove the tablet it is show they are extremely coward and his star are just joy stars given by his daddy not by patriotism. Dr. Hun Manet is very coward as his daddy they only aim to kill innocent Cambodians that all. Dr. Hun SEn and Dr. ten stars Hun Manet are very great at bullying Cambodians and killing Cambodians but cowardly toward Thai and Viet.
CPP are not just corrupted, CPP are extremely corrupt. They are even sell the country such as Kos Trol, Seas, lands, Cambodian people, Cambodian health and well being, all resources in the Cambodia…with lost count. You name it!
Seriously where is the win win policy of Dr. Hun Sen represent? The country is getting smaller and smaller and shame by Dr. Hun Sen and Dr. Hun Manet and his families, his relatives and friends.
That is the kind of media they are in Thailand. It is above the time the world or Cambodian should never take them on their words.
