An army private who was detained and later released by Cambodia has been questioned by his superiors including the army chief and the defence minister.
Pvt Songkran Thongchompu was captured during a clash with Cambodian soldiers in Si Sa Ket on Sunday.
He was released in Phnom Penh on Tuesday and taken to Aranyaprathet district in Thailand's Sa Kaeo province on the evening of the same day.
He was then immediately taken to the outpost of the army's Suranaree Task Force in Kantharalak district in Si Sa Ket as senior army officers learned that Cambodian authorities asked the private to sign a document before his release.
A security source said Pvt Songkran's superiors asked him what had happened during his detention in Cambodia.
The private said he had been well treated but Cambodian authorities demanded that he sign a letter in exchange for his release.
"Pvt Songkran said it was a letter to ask Somdej Hun Sen [Cambodian prime minister] to help him return home," the source said.
The private was unable to read the letter as it was written in Khmer. The source said there was concern the private might have been made to sign a confession to the effect that Thailand had attacked and invaded Cambodia. "We must wait and see what happens," the source said.
Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon and army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha visited soldiers in Kantharalak district yesterday and spoke to Pvt Songkran.Gen Prayuth said he did not think Pvt Songkran had made a confession or signed a statement that could damage Thailand.

Cambodia is gathering banned weapons in which the Thai invaders used during their massive attack on Cambodia. This will be a big show at the UN.
If they can't have the temple, mind as well destroy it. This is their evil mentality. They just can't have enough of Cambodia. Their are hundreds of Khmer temples in Siemland already, and now they have to add Preah Vihear to their collection.
Ultimately, the ICJ case will reopen again...and Cambodia will ultimately shame Siem again at the international arena...
The resolution to this border problem is very simple. Thailand should not use the map that secretly created by themselves without recognized by international agreement in the world body. The way thailand behavior right now toward their neighbors is similar to NAZI back in the 1940s. Hitler drawn his own map and start to invade his neighbor countries. Conflict will be solve if thailand agreed to the international recognized map that agreed between Thailand and Cambodian/French in 1904 and 1907.
Cambodia is not the only country that Thailand wants to invade and claim territory. Thailand also has problem with Loas, Burma, and Malaysia in term of border problem.
Thailand must stops the aggressions or … all the neighbors will take actions to eliminate the aggressions…
Thai will be in turmoils or chaos once its dying king die. Its country will be just like Yugoslavia. They will split into many autonomous or will be become independent. Khmer mostly make up 30 million of them currently in Thailand those Khmer needs to wake up and rejoin Cambodia.
It is a pity for Cambodian people that have misunderstood about their root of country. They are only poor Cambodian people, not khmere people. You may not know that Khmere ruled many countries in Southeast Asia from Vietnam to Laos and Burma under the name of Angkor Empire. It is similar to Roman Empire govern many countries in Europe. That is the reason why there are many stone temples in many countries in this region. So you have no right to claim that all stone are yours. We don’t have border problem with others, but Cambodia because of the evil PM, Hunsen.
In fact, stone temples are the heritage of all nations they are situated, they do not belong to just Cambodia. Cambodian are new comers just coming to live in the land named Angkor. You have no right to claim that. Angkor was great but Cambodia is a disgrace. You should build the reputation of your land by your own, not by claiming that of others. It is ashamed of you.
With the unrest and poor Cambodia, you have to be refugees to my land and we are so kind and sympathetic enough to let you live and educate in my kingdom with mercy and with respect of human right. It is because we accept that no one can choose to be born in a good country. So we are kind to you, poor people. Why do you betray to the land that gives you food and rest?
Your country has been ruled by the devils, so your country has never been in peace. What a pity Cambodian people! Now Hunsen, an evil tries to distort reality and “spin people’s head” to invade Thai border and hate Thai people. Why don’t you question to Hunsen who sold the land to Vietnam and corrupt the Cambodians for their own rich while Cambodian people still very poor.

I would like you to think that you will call the ones who come to claim the roof of your house theirs as mad people. It is like mad Hunsen try to do now. They are cheating the world. The power countries are pretending not to know and ignore about this. It is because stealing my land is the episode II of colonization in the global world. It is funny to call it accepted international map, it is just a device to rob my country. You accepted that because of your hated mind to the land you ever rest.
Academically, all countries accept that the border of the country is divided by geographical features. It is universal accepted. So it is ashamed for using a map which did not based on this standard as a device for making decision. What happen on earth with unaccepted map to be used in consideration in international case? What the justice means!
All know that Cambodia is located in a low land down hundred feet below the high plateau of Thailand. It is the fact that Pra Viharn or a stone temple at the edge of Thai cliff is actually belonged to Thailand, not Cambodia. Undoubtedly, it belongs to Thai! But why it is judged to be of Cambodia. All Thai know that we were robbed through unacademically and unscientifically accepted map by the trick and cheat of France, the mother of Cambodia. It is just politic. So, why do we have to accept this? It is just an international politics between the weak and strong power? If you have the heart of justice, you have not to accept too.
In fact, Cambodia is ruled by Thailand for a long time and it is stolen by a power country like France in colonization period. After that we let you be Free! Are you happy to be colonized by France or even dominated by Vietnam now? Why don’t you protect your land from the robber and its contingency PM, Hunsen?
We are Thai, the only independent country in Asia and we will fight for our freedom. Why don’t you do like us to force the invaders out of your country and choose a good PM!
What you are going to claim my land as yours is only a reciprocal action to steal my land. In doing that, you and many power countries especially France and USA, are being contingent to steal our land because of our rich of resources. I wonder UN and UNESCO disguise themselves only to serve power countries in order to rob many countries’ resource.
In this case, they appear to me as they are fake organizations for peace and justice. In this sense, they just say good thing for peace but they act as a device for serving power countries to exploit and rob other countries’ properties. As I have seen for the UN, UNESCO may be, I don’t trust the international agencies for peace and international justice.
I warn you all who rob my country that you will be damaged and face with much greater disasters. They come for sake of god to punish countries who act as Satan to damage the world’s peace and justice of nature. We are in peace and give mercy to you and many countries. You all, both Cambodia and power countries should not do that for sake of the world and innocence people.
Cambodian goverment is always prone to use such dirty cheap trick to counter its opponents including its own citizens.
I just hope HUN SEN will modernize his country military to catch up with Thailand in near future. So, Thailand will not dare to bully Cambodia around. I love Cambodia because of its rich cultures and very beautiful country. Thailand kept on stealing and copying Cambodia everything.

continued from 0940H: Yes Cambodia is a poor country, due to our history, 95% of educated where killed or flew away in the 70's. Before we were one of the most developped countries in the XX century. Our khmer monks and ordinary people can read the old sanskrit: not the thai people: you have to ask yourself why and how can. Thailand had always a problem of unity but it specific to South East Asia, because we were influenced by our old history where in deed the Khmer Empire was composed by several vassal states. in the 1900's, the thai King falsified the Thailand history in order to unify its country: this is the reason why he direct his own people to hate Manyanmar, Laos and Camboida. Because the Thai people is not originally from this region but rather from south of China (mountain savage tribes), they need to create artifical hisotry to make themselves proud of somehting. LOOK THE FACTS: in angkor wat walls, there are scarving showing that Khmer people used thai mercenaries in the front line to fight the Champa Empire. In the XIV century, Siam burnt Angkor Wat and deported 10 000 people (dancers, scribes, merchants, etc.) . Then it was the base of Thai civilizxation: form lottering the Khmer Empire where its king were disputing each other for pussies and power. Siam people just lucky because of that ! In deed, Thailand is composed of 70 % ethcnic Khmer ! logic,, if this soldier didn't come into cambodia he wouldn't be captured,, then again if khmer soldier went to thailand and capture this soldier,, that show how weak thai force are,, cambodia playing smart and abide by the international laws, make this soldier signed the doc and then sent him on his way,,, SAD to say that most of the soldier on the thai side is probably khmer origin,, Brother to brother,, khmer did the right thing and let one of the brother goes and hope that he will see truly who is the one that rejected him...
