Letters to The Bangkok Post
A missed opportunity
Amid the jingoistic ballyhoo surrounding Preah Vihear temple one point has been largely drowned out.
Article 11.3 of the 1972 Unesco World Heritage Convention states that ''the inclusion of a propery situated in a territory, sovereignty or jurisdiction over which is claimed by more than one State shall in no way prejudice the rights of the parties to the dispute''. Thus, any call for delisting is essentially a red herring.
The sane and civilised approach, which briefly looked possible three years ago, would be a joint listing and management plan as per the 2008 World Heritage operational guidelines. Of course, that idea was scuppered by those who are now engaged in a bout of mutual recriminations over the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding.
Not that World Heritage status of itself necessarily solves anything. The Old City of Jerusalem has sat on the endangered list since 1982.

History of hate
Regarding the letter written by Khun Phuttikiat (Postbag, Feb 13), I strongly agree that delisting is not a solution. However, we have to know the cause. If Prime Minister Abhisit misunderstands the listing of Preah Vihear as the root of conflict, he is totally wrong.
Vengeance toward France and Cambodia has been growing since we lost the case in 1962. France and Cambodia were like father and son, they did what benefited them the most as they also benefited each other, and even performed the conspiracy in front of the respective international courts of justice. Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat even announced his anger and promised to take back what previously belonged to Thailand. The conspiracy is the tap root while the court's decision and our negligence are the rootlets.
Solve this bilaterally and diplomatically - and don't make the same mistake again.

So what belongs to Thailand? Thailand knows the history that they fought for the southern part of their land from the Khmer Empire. So who is the rightful owner?
Why is wrong for Cambodia to stake a claim to what belong and what used to be part of their empire. If Thailand choose to revoke ICJ ruling then we, as Khmer descendants should take Thailand to ICJ again to reclaim out northern land back.
Thailand should just accept the 1962 ruling for whatever reason they want and be the bigger person in all this and say it is to show our neighbor friendliness.
Cambodia has lost many of its land mass to all side and they should brush this situation away. Thailand will always profit from Preah Vihear even though Cambodia list it. Easy access from their side and tourist will always cross border for sight seeing.
Give it a rest Thailand especially THE NATION NEWSPAPER AND BANGKOK. Don`t think you have military might to bully everyone around. Try picking on Vietnam or China and see what happens. Don`t get cocky when you are picking on a fight with a country who you know you can beat. Then again I know full well that Cambodia is ready for war. Is your soldier, I mean ISSAN ready?
I could not, cannot and will not be able to understand the Thai mentality about Preah Vihear.
They really want it so badly even though they know full well that it was built by the Cambodians way back into history.
This is really quite absurd and incomprehensible.
What would we say if India wanted the Great Wall of China or at least demanded the joint listing with China of the Great Wall?
Cambodians need to put aside their internal conflicts for now and be united as one in order to confront this absurd aggression and insanity.
Do not make the same mistakes like the old royals in the past who would, in this case, go to help Thailand in order to get Thailand help them topple the real king so that they could become a new king and in return, would give some territory to Thailand.
Whether you like Mr. Hun Sen or not, this is not the time to try to fight him. Of course, many people know that Mr. Hun Sen is not a good leader, but that should be dealt with later as only our ennemies will benefit if we continue to fight among ourselves.

I support Thailand and Cambodia to go to War just as Kampuchea and Vietnam war. Who ever won take control either Thailand or Cambodia.
And let the super power supply weapons to both side.
Let US and England supply to Thailand.
And let China and Russia supply to Cambodia.
Who ever side won, the super power won. and control the world by 2020.
Dear H.E. Hor Nam Hong,
Please do not accept bilateral talk with Abhisit any more.
He has played game with Cambodia in order to confuse Thai people to turn away from his trouble with his own Thai people. We khnow his trick. He has used the Cambodian Temple Preah Vihea as a bait to turn Thai people away from criticizing him and his group. This dirty policy is falling down, both domestic and foreigh policy. Abhisit cannot escape from his own people.
He sent addional 20,3000 Thai troops to the border to prepare for a full scale invasion.
Please be firm and stay with UN and ICJ. On the other hand, Cambodia must be ready to denfend territoral integrety.
Abhisit was installed by Yellow Shirts. Now 2 Yellow Shirts are in Cambodian Jail. That why Abhisit and Yellow Shirt get mad. They are mad dogs.
For their safety, Brothers and siters in Si Sa Ket should tell Thai sodiers to stay away from their province.
STOP THE WAR CAUSED BY ABHISIT AND YELLEOW SHIRT !

look at the 1907 map, there is no dispute, stop making illegal demand of stealing from cambodia, ok! don't come to talk with us until you look at the 1907 map, ok!
CHRIS JEFFERY,
Abhisit won't listen to any body. He is sick. Hw won't accept 3rd party. He is an Asian Hitler
what happens between Cambodia and Thailand now is showing how Cambodia government works.
1- Everyone agrees to use map from 1908 to demarcate the frontier, but... something show a weak negotiation skill... agree to have buffer [or overlapped] zone along the border, and then Thailand opposed the bid to have Preah Vihear in world heritage list
2- In order to have Preah Vihear listed before 2008 election, Cambodia agreed to have joint management over the so called overlapped zone (4.6 sqkm) in a join-communiqué on 18 June 2008.
3- There will be another serious problem in the sea, because of MOU-2001, even Abisit canceled that MOU, but it is still valid, because Thai parliament have not approved the cancellation yet.
Ho namhong not accept bilateral party you are a dog from Thai and yuon.
