PAD wants Cambodians out first

A condition should be set that Cambodians staying in the disputed border area must move out before Thailand and Cambodia agree on a permanent ceasefire, as called for by the United Nations Security Council, People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) spokesman Pathep Puapongphan said on Tuesday.

If this condition was not met first, then they would continue to occupy the area and trespass on more Thai territory, including the Wat Kaeo Sikkha Khiri Savara and Phu Ma Khua.

If this was allowed to happen, Cambodia might win the management of the area around Preah Vihear temple and Thailand might end up losing the disputed area permanently, he said.

PAD co-leader Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang said today he would not object if police want to search the PAD protest site for weapons and alcoholic drinks.

If summonses were issued for PAD leaders to report to police to answer charges of violating the Internal Security Act, they would cooperate and would not moving the protest to put pressure on the police, the court or the prison system, he said.

Maj-Gen Chamlong said the PAD would be glad to provide information about the Thai-Cambodian dispute if a forum is set up for this purpose, but would definitely not negotiate or debate with the government on the matter.
