“The National Assembly cannot restore Mu Sochua’s immunity if there is firstly no letter from the Ministry of Justice.”
The National Assembly has yet to restore parliamentary immunity for opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua, following a defamation case against her last year, and officials indicated Monday the procedure is stuck somewhere between the legislative body and the Ministry of Justice.

Mu Sochua, a Sam Rainsy Party representative for Kampot province, had her immunity stripped by the Assembly in 2009, after was sued by Prime Minister Hun Sen for defamation. She was later ordered to pay court fines and damages, effectively closing the case.

Procedurally, the Ministry of Justice makes the official request for the removal of immunity to the National Assembly in order to pursue a trial. It must then also inform the National Assembly when the trial process is complete, legal experts said.

Mu Sochua said Wednesday the Ministry of Justice had “turned a deaf ear” to her case because she does not belong to the ruling party.

Cheam Yiep, a National Assembly lawmaker for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, said the Assembly was waiting for the letter from the Ministry of Justice.

“The National Assembly cannot restore Mu Sochua’s immunity if there is firstly no letter from the Ministry of Justice,” he said.

But justice officials say they have forwarded the proper information to the National Assembly.

Bun Yay Narin, spokesman for the ministry, said it had submitted a letter to the National Assembly last week, and he referred further questions to Leng Peng Long, the secretary-general of the National Assembly.

Leng Peng Long was not available for comment.

You see if Hun Sen doesn't listen to the Viets, the viets for sure will kill his family. Now if you are Hun Sen, wouldn't you do the same? and also as our king father. if he didn't listen to the Chinese or the Viets, his family would have been long gone too. So, it is very scary to be in their shoes as 'leader' you know what i mean?. Every move you make is critical.

What are we going to do about this? make sure that you deal with the Viets or the Chinese on the ground of migrating both nations to come into the country and be part of its citizen without losing an inch of land to neither of these two nations.

Ask them in return they have to help adding more infrastructures and housing etc...like building the second Hong kong city or the second sigon cities and link cultures for all who live within it just like the west society. that is accepting cultural difference and make peace.

As for polical views, Hun Sen needs to mend the relationship between the two parties, in doing so is to end this drama and also being a good role model for the whole nation as to moving forward.

Khmer have had enough problems about personal conflict of interests and this need to stop, There is a need to focus on national and international level interests.

Focusing on building infrastructures and innovation. More jobs for people, for resource for trade, more eduction for children and more health care...
