Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya will travel to Cambodia today to convey the message that the Thai government does not want war with any country, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Thursday.
“Mr Kasit’s visit has nothing to do with the two Thais being held in Prey Sar prison on charges of espionage and illegal entry. The Thai government respects the ruling handed down by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court,” Mr Suthep said.
Mr Suthep hoped the conveyed message would help calm the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border.
Asked about the ultimatum by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), that the government must bring back home the jailed coordinator of the Thai Patriots Network Veera Somkwamkid, and his secretary, within three days, the deputy premier said the yellow-shirts should instead join forces with the government to seek the release of the two Thais.
“I have no idea who the yellow-shirts are angry with.
"It is strange that the PAD wants to topple the government just because of this issue. PAD leaders should instead be discussing ways to help the detained Thais with the government,” he said.
